Provincial Election

A lot of negative ads against Dougie’s record and education, cost to have beer and wine in convenient stores.

Haven’t seen much from the other parties yet. I know things are just getting started. PCs popularity dropping and Liberals climbing.

Can Doug fend off the others to get elected again or will his record hurt him enough to have someone else become premiere?

He wins. The others are either completely out of public consciousness (how many people could pick stiles name out of a list yet alone recall it from memory?) or Crombie who is amazingly dirtier and less likeable than doug.

I think a case can be made for healthcare and education. Those are sticky points with long wait times and limited resources.

I expect the opposition will hit him hard here. However, I don’t think any party has the political will to identify funding waste and make changes.

For example, complaints against an educator results in months paid time off during the investigation. Lots of lawyers and administrators are getting paid for work unrelated to classroom education. Law enforcement deems the complaint a nothing burger in 48 hrs but, the investigation continues. Two teachers getting paid and funds allocated to the investigation. How many of these incidents that happen because of BS that takes up time and money?

Leave that alone and just hire more educators.

That green space thing was a boondoggle and didn’t look good for Doug.

I know a lot of cons in my circle fully support Doug. But, I think he may lose support from the liberal votes he earned from the last election and bring back a liberal government.

Doug does resonate well with the people and mic. But, he’s got a tough record to defend.

Why is Ford calling an early election? Is Ford worried he will screw up so bad dealing with Trump in the next year?
Does Ford think a Conservative federal government will lead to an "automatic" Liberal government in Ontario?
I am leaning towards Crombie but I am bias living in Mississauga City.
Don't forget the NDP!

1.Why is Ford calling an early election? 2. Is Ford worried he will screw up so bad dealing with Trump in the next year?

5.Don't forget the NDP!
1.Because he has a good chance of winning and that gives him an extra three years at the trough
2.I doubt it. While he is blustery, I don't know how much a provincial leader can push the needle on the big issues. I doubt he would be allowed to shut off energy or invoke tariffs, those seem like decisions that should be made at the federal level. Ontario can obviously offer (or not offer) incentives for companies to locate here but trump won't gaf about those.
3. That often happens. Especially when PP needs to smash things to try to slow the raging dumpster fire. That will raise hate towards the cons.
4.Fair enough. I find her awful.
5. NDWho? They don't have a chance in hell. No leader recognition, no policies that make any sense, no real candidates in many ridings. I have had a friend run for NDP in elections. Unionized employee that asked to be on the ballot and NDP had no better options so they went with them. They got slaughtered in the polls.

There seem to be some newly formed not for profits from public sector unions that are putting out a lot of attack ads. Then there are also union attack ads. I guess the narrative is that "Everybody hates Doug". Something called "Ontario Forward" seems to be one of the sources.

I’m sure Ford’s political advisors have been predicting how this tariff battle is going to go and having just over a year of run way left, by the time it’s over or if it’s over, voters are not going to be happy and likely looking for change by June of next year.

So I get it. Give yourself 4 more years and weather the storm.

While my armchair observation is Ford will likely get re-elected. You just never know.

On the NDP is nuts front, Stiles says that truck 407 tolls disappear on day one if she wins and she will negotiate to remove all tolls from 407. That is certainly possible but when you are trying to negotiate with a very profitable monopoly, the only way they concede is if you pay more than the future value of their expected profits and with no limit on how much they can increase tolls and 70 years left, that is a hell of a lot of billions. Of course Stiles made zero effort to determine cost or funding for her quackery. Continued NDP tradition of looney tunes ideas that sound good but are completely non-viable when reality is part of the picture.

I think DoFo will be re-elected, but with less of the popular vote and perhaps a few seats, but still a majority.

Bottom line here is that Ford had made a number of errors over the years, but similar to the last 2 federal elections, the competition is very weak.

People these days go to the polls not excited about a particular candidate, but more focussed on selecting the least objectionable person.

In 2026 Skipper will have been in power for about a year, the economy may well have been hammered by Trump's tariffs and people will be ready for a change. So now's the time for an election.

BTW, Stiles will "negotiate" a no toll situation with the 407 folks as soon as you see Trump in a dress and pair of pumps.......... Never going to happen.

She could do it. It's not even hard. Throw them a few billion a year for the remaining contract or something like 50B now and they walk away. That's about 25% of the entire budget. It will balance itself.

Douggie, I think the guy did alright for the Prov. Sure he stepped in it a couple of times, I think with healthcare a bit, and the science centre stuff. But he hasn't been the trainwreck the lib's were before him. Unless I'm missing something obvious, it's been nice to have some smoothish sailing without all the stupidity. I've seen a bit of the ads from the other teams, and they just seem obviously foolish.

Not sure why he's calling the election now, unless it has something to do with how PP and the feds end up, or just tying to get a jump on the competition.

i'd go for it if the NDP wrote the cheque. I don't think the NDP has enough money to buy ink for the pen.

The spa downtown is a cesspool. Anytime a politician leases public lands for more than 25 years they deserve a punch in the face. That doesn't even consider the hundreds of millions we are paying for a parking garage for the spa.

More to the point: Why is a provincial premier sticking his face into federal politics. Ford DOES NOT deal with Trump.
Get back in your lane Dougie.
I get this. The Feds are fiddling while Rome burns… all the premiers are stepping up. They can’t ultimately make the deal, but they can lobby and prosecute in the court of public opinion on both sides of the border.
