Protection when camping on tour up north?

My mind was clearly in the gutter. I was thinking what is wrong with condoms, they provide decent protection when not camping up north, why can't they provide the same protection when camping?

Mmmmnn...yeah. Not the only one. Things can get 'wild' out camping  ;) Always use a condom kids!

And this:
Prevention is key. Make sure you also cook away from your campsite.

Especially if you wear that furry little outfit you got in your av. Lolol
Good advice tho...bring protection. Condoms for the ones you want and bear spray for the ones you don't. Lmao

At the risk of this turning into a guns blazing BEAR THREAD, there was some hunter/guide up in Nunavut who always slept with a revolver, just in case. So the polar bear walks into his tent, STANDS on his gun and has a sniff. Terrified, the man punches it hard, in the nose. Spooked, the bear retreats.

I've camped for many years, often pretty deep woods. Closest encounter I had was in a large group campground near Thunder Bay when a bear walked into my site while my 3 year old and I were sitting by the fire. Scared the crap out of me trying to keep myself between the bear and my daughter and direct her to the truck. Grabbed a pan and a knife and made some noise but if the bear decided to be unpleasant I was not going to come out of it well but I was sure it wasn't getting closer to my daughter.

Even with that, I never worry too much about wildlife. Hmm, I did have an elephant take out a neighbouring tent once, though... Another story for another day.

I always have a sizable knife ready to hand but that's more my own orneriness than practical. Although, I did talk with a guy that attacked a bear with a knife to try to save his dog after his dog took on the bear to save him. Guy and dog lived (dog was very badly f'd up), bear killed by guy's hunting knife in the neck - so it can be done.

Keep the food stored properly - in the car or far away and you shouldn't have trouble. By far the most dangerous thing you can do on a camping trip is drive to your campsite - forget the wildlife, it's traffic that's dangerous.
