Hey guys tried searching the forums but not to much useful info on what I need.

Looking to thoroughly clean the grime on my rims, chain guard, swingarm and sprockets

What methods/cleaning products does everyone use that works the best?

magic eraser, MacGuires(sp?) rim cleaners,
most degreasers you can but at cdn tire work well to clean rims. Use a pickle for the chain (as in a recent post)

I use kerosene for all of that! Works like a charm!

I've had good luck with Simple Green.

I've used paint thinner and it doesn't seem to do the job, just makes everything cloudy looking

Just began using Tirox this spring, and used it last weekend again after a road trip, works excellent. Says on the label it works on rims/swingarms etc. in addition to chain so figured I would give it a try, best results I've ever had. Much less of a mess than I normally end up with using Kerosene.

Tirox is basically kerosene.

Paint thinner works but you can't just keep wiping dirt with dirt. Wipe the leftover crap off with a clean rag, depending on how bad it is you may need to repeat the process.

...i think paint thinner will remove your clear coat... I use tirox. Spray a small amount on a rag and go to town in small sections. Wash and rinse after.

WD-40 is a decent parts cleaner for things like that.
I'll use kerosene when I'm actually cleaning the chain.

I wish I had a place to take my time and really wash the toys and truck well... I can easily spend 45 minutes on the bikes, and over an hour on my truck (just to get the outside) to the point where I'm happy...

Spent like $16 tonight and a few hours going back and forth to the car wash to wash the street bike, dirt bike and truck.

That makes me sad :( I love detailing my bike.. I'm in Mississauga, have a huge *** driveway.. all the cleaning stuff and more.. if you ever want to come by and spend some time cleaning your bike, you're more than welcome too!

Used kerosene for the first time today, and definitely approve of it. Cleans the chain the same as Tirox, been mentioned it's pretty much kerosene with a nice brush that I still use, but much cheaper. 4L jug ran me about $10, and a spray bottle was about $2 for a nice one, both from Canadian Tire. At that price I see no plausible argument for anything else, not to mention it works beautifully.

My centre stand has almost 70k km of chain lube and crud accumulated on it, tried Zap degreaser on it a couple times and it barely touched it, sprayed on some kerosene and the schmutz came off on the first wipe.

Did I mention it's $10 for 4L???

kerosene, or chain cleaner will work best. Dont forget to use gloves and some type of utility knife will help get the nice caked stuff off around the sprocket cover.
