Sounds great. I've been using Bombay Sapphire gin for a number of years and switched it up to a more traditional gin for a change.

Here's my enthusiast go-to dirty martini. I'll try and get a picture up some time.

2 oz Beefeater London Dry Gin
0.25 - 0.5 oz dry vermouth, to preference (Martini & Rosso Blanco)
0.1 - 0.25 oz premium olive brine, to preference (I'm using Fee Brothers olive brine)
Shaken with ice in a cocktail shaker
4 premium olives (I use Dumet AG Spanish Manzanill Gourmet Olives with Pimento Paste as found on Amazon)

I've had a hard time finding really good olives. I had to go to Amazon to get some at this time. Premium olive brine is hard to find as well. Both are very much worth the effort.

Check out the cocktail glass. It was a free Campari branded cocktail glass available with the liquor purchase. It's really nice: heavy, thick glass, bottom weighted, and an attractive, detailed style/design. There's even a design on the bottom of the glass. I really like it and picked up a number of them.

Currently my favourite cocktail right now. The americano. I had no idea it existed until I got into Campari and bitters. It's another classic cocktail and aperitivo with a long and interesting history dating back to the 1860's. It used to be known as a Milano-Torino (for a basic reason) but was renamed Americano. Many suggest is was to pay homage to the first Italian american world heavyweight boxing champion in the 1930's. Others also point out that many Americans and American expats became big fans of this cocktail during the prohibition years. Campari was considered medicinal (and still is in many parts of the world today) and was not outlawed.

The Americano is a James Bond cocktail :). It appears in Fleming's Casino Royale book.

The recipe is simple and excellent.
Americano (cocktail) - Wikipedia
1 oz Campari
1 oz red sweet vermouth (Martini & Rossi red sweet vermouth)
Soda water to preference (generally 1 - 3 oz) (can use anything from club soda to Perrier, etc).
Pour over large ice cubes, stir and add an orange slice.

The Americano cocktail is great in the hot weather as well. One drink has less alcohol than a beer, glass or wine or a typical 1 oz spirit drink. It's lighter and very refreshing in the heat.

It's a bit odd to see a cocktail made with all Italian ingredients that has "American "in the name, but there is no denying this cocktail. Enjoy.

certainly not beer

Cali Zinfandel was a useful tool in the teenage years
but sadly that's a long time ago

I need to try a Manhattan again some time. It wasn't a stand out for me when I tried one a few months back. Maybe it was because I used Canadian rye whiskey :dontknow:. Not much discussion yet here on the Manhattan cocktail, but always interested.

I'll have to try Maker's Mark some time as well. I just picked up some Elijah Craig small batch to try.

Highland single malt scotch was one of my first encounters into great approachable premium liquor. In my case, it was Glenmorangie 10. I really appreciate this style of liquor. But scotch prices have gone crazy. Glenmorangie 10 is now 50% more costly than a comparable bottle of bourbon :scratch::dontknow:. I only sample scotch a few times a year now and haven't tried Glenmorangie 10 yr in over a year. Bourbon is great value over scotch, but the value will erode when the tariffs begin to apply down the road.

For me Woodford Reserve (Distiller's Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey) is an amazing comparator to Glenmorangie single malt 10 yr :).

I don't really look at the price of a bottle for stocking the home bar. I'm getting a dozen mixed drinks out of a 26oz bottle or more, if its a sipping product its usually more than a dozen drinks.
I need to keep bourbon, rye, various scotch, vodka and various rums , since you never know what guests may want to drink.

It's when we are out that my butt puckers, I just cant give a steakhouse $28.00 for a glass of whisky. And last nights long island ice tea at $16.00 was stupid, but sometimes when your in a group.......

I only buy scotch at duty free now. Prices here for that are insane. Single malt Irish whisky is also a good alternative as you aren’t paying for the scotch hype. Bourbon is, for an American product, really a very good sipping drink for me, it’s got that sweetness that just works and isn’t as “medicinal” tasting as some scotches.

different horses for different courses. I like Irish and scotch drinks when its chillier out and I'm maybe having 2? fine maybe the third.. but I really like rum drinks when its summery . white rum for mixed drinks, amber in a pina coloda and Goslings dark in my rum and coke with of a slice of lime to cut the sweet.

sometimes the best drink in the world is rather simple, but the best drink in the world is always the one in my hand.

Definitely like rum too....nothing like a good rum and coke.
