Boo. If it was the RS250 I was going to have to come over and drool on it :)

Do they even make newer RS250s that look similar? I've only seen the older more swoopy ones. I thought about importing one but couldn't get insurance quotes anywhere to see what it would cost me and 2stroker (think it was him anyway) told me he had a hard time finding insurance for his.

I'm not sure, this was my buddies RS250, I think it's 2010?

You sure about that? Looks the same as the 1997 I was going to import from the UK.

So far I love the bike. Needed some basic maintenance like tightening all the cables and chain. Needs a few tanks of Seafoam run through it. It was stuttering and sputtering in first (every other gear was fine) but I put a whole bottle of Seafoam in it and it seems happier.

Only issue now is that when I start it cold (with the choke on) it runs for about a minute and then the RPMs start dropping until it stalls. I need to hold the throttle slightly (don't want to rev it up while cold) for a few minutes until it's happy. I know nothing about carbs so not sure what's up with that. It's like the cold idle needs to be adjusted. Once it's warm it idles fine within spec.

It's a little small for me so I have trouble seeing the tach since I'm above the windshield, the chassis and suspension are way stiffer than what I'm used to, and my back was pretty sore after riding to work today for an hour (haven't spent any time o anything other than my 650). The 650R, even with "sport bars", feels like a massive couch cruiser in comparison.

Oh, it kinda vibrates like crazy, too, being a thumper and all. For some reason doesn't bother me as much as the vibes on the 650.

Pretty sure my neighbors hate me as well.

Update for this morning: With choke on it kept running this morning. Maybe the Seafoam I put in yesterday helped it out.

Second edit: Not sure why the pictures got huge. They were fine before that last edit...

Yeah, looks like first generation body work, I think the Chesterfield paint was the second year, so looks like 97 to me.

Welcome to the club.
The stock pipes on my TZR are quiet until I get on the pipe... so I can come and go from my place easily. My gamma with Toomey pipes I need to push a few blocks from the house before I start it up :(

Good to hear the Seafoam is helping. Sounds like the carb could do with a cleaning.
If it's running half decent, leave it until it's time to put it away. Then learn to pull the carb, clean it and document all the settings. Just don't keep it at WOT for long periods.
Jetting the carb is definitely something you should learn to do. Take lots of pictures if this isn't something you're comfortable with. You can also label hoses and cables with masking tape to get them back into the right spot.

I use the choke on startup and for about 20-30 seconds after, then I turn it off.
Blip the throttle while it's warming up, and ride it gently till it's up at operating temp... after that get it on the pipe!

Congrats on the new bike. Looks like fun!

Cool. I know 2 people who ride this same bike.
Guess they're more common than I thought.

Since I started looking I found 4 for sale in southern Ontario so no, they're not that rare. Surprising since the dealer in Ottawa trying to sell one at over $9k tried to justify the price by claiming there are only 10 registered in Ontario. Local Toronto dealer, on the other hand, told me he's helped at least 50 people put them on the road. You can buy them brand new on clearance in BC for around $4-5k.
