As the title states. I’m finished with the SS bikes and looking at purchasing a Z. If you have one, share your pics, I’d love to see what mods you guys have done, and any dislikes about the bike itself, cheers!

Don't own one, but would love to once I'm over SS too. Not sure what exhaust this is, but it was love at first sight for me.

They are nice looking bikes but they are heavy, don't make much go below 5k rpm, no TC. Ehhh..

Wish ATC Corral had one at the upcoming Kawi demo event.

Here's another one:

theres only a 50 cc difference between the z900 anyway, and while its a nice bike, its still a jap inline 4 thats kind of like the rest of the inline 4s on SS bikes

Pardon my ignorance, why is an inline 4 bad though? Because of the high end torque range?

Nothing wrong with them, I personally am not that fond of them (at least the limited number of them that i have tried)

I like punchy bikes with "character"( the "c" word)
Preferably one that has power everywhere in the rev range

He's not saying it's bad, inline 4s typically just need to be wound out to get to the juice. Personally i like winding out an engine occasionally for the sound, but in reality it's nice to be low/mid in the revs (where one typically is on the street) and get on the jam when needed without waiting for it.

Really can't stand the dash on the z900 and i'm typically indifferent about such things.

was reading somewhere that engine only affects the acceleration, but weight affects acceleration, handling, and braking, so by reducing weight manufacturers can make the biggest difference vis a vis performance

If OP really has his heart stuck on the z1000, they would be better off just getting the z900

Its like 30 lbs lighter and they have basically the same engine

Just curious, have either of you guys actually ridden a Z1000? I've got 86k kms on a Ninja 1000, and have ridden a friend's Z1000. There is definitely no issue with mid-range torque, and above 6000, it will stretch your arms. The Z is a little more nimble than the N1k, but both feel nicely planted. Switch to a 190/55 rear (stock is 190/50) and raise the forks 5 mm in the triple tree and there is absolutely no heavyness in turn-in or cornering.

Ridden the z900, nice bike, but perhaps my definition of stretching arms is different than yours. I never felt terrified on it like i did on the fz.

Maybe im splitting hairs on the 900 and the thousand, but cant imagine being that big of a difference between the 2

Haven't ridden the Z900, but given the drop in weight & price compared to the Z1000, I'd seriously look at the 900 today.

My only point is that you shouldn't generalize about all in-line 4s. When the N1k came out, I remember seeing dyno charts comparing it to the ZX10R. The N1k had more power and torque through the middle of the rev range, really pulled between 6000 & 10000, but it was at the higher end above 9000 that the ZX10R just walked away from it.

Have not, opinion is based on research/chats with owners.

Thats why i suggested the OP look at a z900 instead

30 lbs lighter and much cheaper isnt something to sneeze at

I don't think anything i said was unfactual

Just remember you`re discussing this with 2 owners of FZ9's, we would consider almost everything else out there lagging ;):p
