Guys and Gals

The police have launched a blitz targeting people for illegally using cell phones or operating their vehicle carelessly. Hopefully this blitz means nothing to GTAM members because they are observing the laws and driving safely.

If you do get nailed, you bloody well deserve it and shame on you! Considering situations as I've described below, it's time that people got what they deserve!

About frigging time.. I don't know how many idiots I've seen on their phones texting.
Not too long ago I was in the fast lane of the 403 and there was this Suv going real slow.. I had to overtake in the middle lane to get back and right enough this woman was on the phone chatting away. Where are the cops when you need them !

I literally pointed out an offender to a cop and he didn't do jack ****! I was thinking WTF, do your damn job and nail that mother ****er! What made it worse was the offender was blabbing on his phone in a (elementary) school zone. I mean c'mon! Can you imagine the lawsuit if that driver hit a kid after the cop ignored it?

im so happy they are doing these blitz!

they should definitely do this at least once a month on a random week!

1) increase in income for government
2) keeps people in check since they dont know when the blitz will be unless they clearly state the date.

hopefully this will make the roads a safer place for all not just bikers =D

Let's hope there's a good haul.. Time to put away those radars/lidars for a minute and get the real dangerous types. Unfortunately, it involves learning a new set of courtroom skills.

What a crock of crap. So since they're doing this blitz I can drive without a seatbelt right? Just so long as they're not doing a seatbelt blitz?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cops doing their job and looking for bad people doing bad things, I just don't get the whole "blitz" crap. Just something for the bosses to sound and feel good about.

I'm the first to agree that the police should enforce this law all the time. However, until one of us becomes the chief of police or there is collective pressure on the politicians we're stuck with what we've got.

why do we need BLITZ for the cops to do their jobs?

why do we need BLITZ for the cops to do their jobs?

Because we don't have enough cops to check on cell phone use all the time at the same time as say....dealing with robberies, assaults etc. Nothing wrong with a blitz if it does what it's supposed to do which is get the message across to the general public.

i didn't know traffic cops responded to robbery and assault calls. most of them hide in the bushes waiting to jump out on passerbys that are speeding

Would they ticket a police officer if I have him on video driving and talking on his cell?

Nope, HTA 78.1(4) exempts emergency service personnel including police from this restriction.

Edit: Damn, turbodish beat me to it.

..and that's all they do? So no responding to accidents and safely directing traffic around them or making sure that unsafe loads don't fall off trucks and kill people in following cars....

No. The HTA permits police and drivers of other specified emergency vehicles to use cell phones and hand-held radios in the performance of their duties.

And how many times do they check to see if the call that was made was 'in performance of their duties'?

So the reality is that if you are an officer you can talk on your cell phone and no one can question it because you can always say it was in performance of your duties.

I've seen too many officers driving around on their phones for it all to be work related. Unless doing anything while on duty is considered 'work related'.

If it was work related and the government really did care about our safety they would buy them a bluetooth headset so they wouldn't have to use their hands and be less distracted. Ofcourse, it's more convienent to give them immunity.
