Please help me pick a bike...

What is your budget for a new bike?
Do you want to buy new or used?

Check my signature - The SV650S is a great bike with a good riding position. I went to Boston and back on it with no issues and I am old !?!

I've heard outrageous numbers when it comes to insurance (most of my friends with them are 35-45 years old with spotless records.) Is this just bad luck or in general are they hard to get cheap insurance on?

Op not that I can look into a crystal ball and tell you insurance is cheap I know my friend who got that bike is paying around 1k a year and he's older with a spotless record

I think there is lingering bias to it but, I don't think it's the same as it once was. A short time ago, HD was deemed a "premium" motorcycle, non-HD folks would say, over priced pieces of chrome. And when insurance companies relied heavily on engine displacement for setting rates, HD got hit pretty hard. But, a lot of that has leveled off now. A Honda or Yamaha cruiser is priced almost the same as an HD and they can have the same, if not higher engine displacements.

Some insurance companies rate HD on their replacement value, as they certainly are not known for their performance. The cost to own and operate an HD is very compariable to anything else they compete with.

The OP does have some seat time (needing to go for their "M") but, I didn't catch their age. They mentioned HD but, moved on and dismissed cruisers and seemed to lean towards something a little more "standard". I think it's worth checking out and comparing HD products against anything else and you just might be pleasantly surprised.

i have a 10 ninja 650r. it has a yoshi slip on. and for sure it does not sound like a lawn mower. its a v twin but it kinda has its own sound to it. ive ridden my freinds cbr 600 and that is a crotch rocket, the ninja 650 u are sitting pretty upright. i also have sport bars on mine that imo made the riding position alot more comfortable.

Look into the SV650N <- the naked version of the SV650. The "S" resembles a sport bike, which will probably have the ergo's you don't want.

I really like the look of the SV650N and the Monster. I only see one SV650N on Kijiji though...

Want to buy used... Probably around $4000

Saw your bike for sale. Can it be changed into an "N"?
