Hi guys,
I had a quick question about a letter that I received today. I crashed my bike on October 1st, 2013. There were no other vehicles involved as I ran into the curb getting on to the 401 ramp. You can quickly glance over the details here if you like. I called 911 and was taken to the hospital but didn't make a claim with my insurance at the time as I felt that it was not needed since the damages to the bike and myself were minimal.
So a few days after the crash I got billed for the ambulance which I paid right away. However, today almost four and half months after the incident I received a bill from MTO which was sent to them by the fire department for a total of $465, which they want me to pay immediately. My question is for those who perhaps have been in similar situations as me; what options do I have? Can I send the bill to my insurance, even though I didn't make a claim in the first place? As a 23 year old full-time student it is incredibly difficult if not impossible for me to hand them over $465 which right now I don't have. But if I don't they have threatened to send collection agencies after me. I am not going to discuss whether the services of the fire department were required or not, because that's not the point of my question here.
I searched the forums before posting this question, and in the two instances I found this topic being discussed the conversation moved from helping the OP figure out what to do to whether this charge was justified or not. Hopefully some of the replies I get will help future members get meaningful answers to this question.
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to reply to this.
