Please explain brake master cylinders to me

you've pretty much got it. master cylinder, tube, resevoir, brake light switch (street only, don't need this for track), banjo bolt, and some brake fluid. I suggest motul 660 if this is for the track. Be careful which brake fluid you use. You cannot mix dot 4 and dot 5.1. If you switch brake fluid types, you will need to fully clean your brake system which is a massive amount of work. Personally I would stick with a race rated dot 4 which is what motul 660 is , 5.1 feels spongy to me.

Already got a tube of motul 660. I still can't decide between the 19x20 and 19x18, I wish I could try both before I settle. Maybe I'll end up getting the combined one that can be switched. I hope Santa fills the sock with some good cabbage tonight instead of just candy, lol ;)

Merry Christmas everyone!

I have the 19X18 Corsara. Very happy with it both street and track. You can't go wrong.
Merry Christmas.

The RCS I have can do both, 19x18 is much better IMO

Buy the RCS from Dave @ Competition Cycle and he will work out a good deal for you with the bracket and the reservoir etc..

^^^ This

I got the full set up from Dave, 19x18, mini res, ladybird bracket, tygon etc. Dave even test fitted and machined another banjo bolt for me to make sure I'd have no problems mounting and for about the same as I found it for online....well worth the drive to me

Yeah, once I decide what I'm getting, I'll definitely give Dave a call. Maybe he'll throw in a set of good scrubs in the order too, who knows ;)

I prefer 19x20 it's one of the first things I put on every sport bike I own. I like the harder feel compared to the the 19x18.

Most people don't know that the master itself is exactly the same besides the markings and lever. Both have a 19mm bore, only with a different lever pivot distance. So basically if you buy either you can still change it with a simple lever swap, by changing the lever from 18-20mm pivot and vise versa. Levers run about $50...

I didn't know that, lol. Does it work on both folding and long levers, or just the long levers?

Doesn't matter folding, long, or short 18 and 20mm offset lever will fit a master marked 19x20 or 19x18, and change the master. It will just remain with the original markings on the master but a 19x20 with a 18mm replacement lever becomes a 19x18

The first number is the diameter in miliameters of the piston and bore(19mm) and that can not be changed

The 2nd number is the distance from the center of the pivot to the center of the push rod on the lever. In this case 20mm or 18mm, this can be changed with a simple lever swap between 20 and 18

The RCS that people are talking bout does the same but with one lever. The pivot distance is adjustable on the lever. It simple moves the distance from 20-18 by turning a screw, instead of changing levers like I explained for the regular masters

Thanks! This is very valuable information! Now I can buy one or the other without fear of complete regret later! :)

Yes worst case senecio if you want to try the other size, buy a used or new replacement lever in that size and there you have it. It will just be marked with the original size on the master. But all brembo lever have the pivot size marked on the bottom of the ball end on the lever.

Do you have super blue brake fluid that all the cool Tygon kids are using?

It's a shame to buy fancy master and leave your giant hideous OE reservoir. With a brembo reservoir you can get away with 6 or 8mm tygon hose. 8mm will require clamps and/or safety wire. 6mm will fit so tight that you need to cut it to remove it, but most will safety wire or zip tie for redundancy.

I know its a little off topic, but consider it a public service announcement. Use Tygon tubing or equivalent only. Careful not to use other tubing. It can cause the fluid to go milky. I have actually had a racer come to me with brakes that failed due to this. The hose deteriorated from the inside out. a piece of the hose jammed the master, causing the brakes to go hard as a rock, but not apply any force to the pads. He managed to overrun the straight at GBM and used his rear brakes to stop safely.

Anyways. You want a cool little Brembo 15ml reservoir, a stainless ladybird bracket, and a piece of Tygon to connect it. Coincidentally I sell all 3. Shipped for 50$ tax in.

Shame on me for using a topic forum for advertising.... :D

I decided to get the cheap forged version of the Brembo 19x18 master. So far, I can see only one Canadian vendor online selling it (Bluestreak), although I always like having a chance to compare prices, makes the shopping more fun. What are some other places you all source performance parts from?

Just came from the show with Accossato PRS adjustable with 19x17 - 19x18 - 19x19. The price at bluestreak was too good to pass. Gotta say, though, that after talking to a few other people whose opinion I trust, I was finally settled for Brembo 19x20, just couldn't pass the huge savings I scored with the Accossato.
