Plasma vs LCD

From experience and from what I have in the house.....

Plasma

Panasonic

and if you can get the one with the matte screen, I prefer it over the shiny screen ones

.

Matte screen.... Is this why it wasn't as bright when i was looking at them, comparing to the much brighter LCD beside it?

LED I'd assume to be "new" technology correct? Hence the expense to buy one?
I really do like the pic, but do not want to wait a year or two for the price to drop.

For what it's worth, you don't have to break the bank to get a good led. 120hz aren't as pricey and the picture is still great.

Sent from my commodore 64 on dial up

+1 for plasma if you are ready to commit to a great picture. Will cost you more, however if you are planning on watching HD sports - it will be worth every pixel.
Matte screens are great as well, as they don't reflect and produce no glare.

Could be the reason, but what I find is the screen does not reflect the lighting in the room, say a table lamp, or your pot lights, or track lighting and so on....where as the regular ones act almost like a mirror.....

The one I purchased was many years back from Future Shop and it was a US model I never found it at that time in any other store, a few years later when I purchased a 2nd TV (Panasonic again) I could not find one with the matte finish only the shiny finish and this one went to the basement.....where there is minimal light fixtures...

You own a philips. Your opinion is invalid.

You don't need to watch Blu-ray to see the difference between something good and something *****.

My personal favourite demo video is the GoPro 3 video on Youtube.

Lol, my point wasn't that Phillips is good, simply to be realistic about your needs. I watch tv a couple hours a week, spending $15-2000 on a high end tv to watch a Rogers feed for a couple hours wouldn't make a lot of sense.

regder, you really have to understand that to each is his own. People on this forum spend so much on their bikes, an average human being thinks it's nuts. You go to canuckaudiomart, audiokarma or AVS forums, as an example, and see how much people spend on their TVs (yes, 2nd, 3rd TV, etc.) - you'll think they're nuts for sure.

And btw, Philips just completely exited consumer market last week or so.

I have both a plasma (in the family room) and an LED LCD in the bedroom. The plasma has a much warmer almost film type look where as the LCD is crisp and super clear but everything looks like it was shot on video.

Both are good but I prefer the plasma...plus it has the added bonus of helping with the heating in the house ( yes it gets warm...very warm)

Don't forget that plasmas also offer much greater viewing angles.
I have a small Samsung LED and it doesn't take much to have a funny looking picture because of the way you're viewing it (and LED is supposed to be better than plain LCD's for this).
