Places to Ride around K-W

The private track video just put up by friend

And The PIT

Yep, that's one of the private tracks I ride.

I'm taking it into the shop for the full "race prep" service and fork service tonight. He said should be able to have it back for the weekend!

All of a sudden tomorrow looks like a sick day (19°C and sunny!), too bad my bike isn't ready. :(
Where are you going for your service?
Mike @ Strictly MX in Straffordville knows his stuff. One of the very few guys I trust to do my bike work. I'm getting him to build me a mild race motor (more power but still reliable) this winter.

That's exactly where it's going :) My neighbour has been taking his bike there this season also and has been very impressed.

He did my suspension for me this spring. Revalved, resprung and with a few fancy parts. Aside from setting my sag, I hardly touched my adjustments this season. Not like last year where I had a notebook with the settings I used at different tracks and would spend my practice day dialing the thing in just to be mediocre.

He sells Renegade race fuel which is the best bang for the $ as far as race fuels go.

I'll probably spend about $3000 there this winter.

Just dropped my bike off, and he seems like a really good guy. I opted for the rear shock refresh to go along with the forks. He also said "I'll be doing a mod to your engine too." and I was like "Oh yeah? What?". He said the way the oil is pumped around isn't ideal and the clutch can get starved, dry out, and crack plates, costing like $400 in damage repairs. He didn't ask if I wanted it done, said he's doing it, which I really liked. A lot of shops would have let it fail, sold me a new clutch and then charged me for such a mod, that is if they even had any idea about it.

Since I haven't ridden it yet I don't have a baseline for comparison on suspension feel but I can't wait to ride it to see how sweet it is.

Before I saw your sig, I assumed you had a yz250f based on that last post. I ran into a Canadian pro's dad (Medaglia) about 6 weeks ago, we got to chatting and he asked if I had done that mod... I haven't yet. My last 2 MX bikes have been YZ250Fs, without the mod and were extremely reliable. However, I'm sure mike will end up doing it for me. If it's what I'm thinking of, the amount of oil to replace during your oil changes (every 3 hours) will be less.

I can't remember exactly why they did the mod, but apparently it's very popular with the pro guys.

I have those quick-vent fork bleed valves (just push the valve instead of using a screw driver to relief the pressure) and I'm sure he is gonna give me hell about using them lol.

The difference in the suspension is night and day. I think my biggest speed improvement was a direct result of the suspension. I was able to hit bigger things with less worry of the consequences if I came up short and the rough stuff just got more enjoyable... But at 35 hours the oil in it is toast and I can feel it.

He basically said the modern gets more oil flow into the middle of the clutch. I won't be racing so it would likely be fine but he said it's a fairly simple mod so best just to do it.

I'm essentially a newb (again) to dirt riding. I've never owned a dirt bike with a mono shock before now. Haha... Rode a TS125 when I was a kid, from 13 to 16, then on and off after that once I started street riding. I did a Ganny "Trail Tours" day two years ago and it was awesome. We were lucky and 4 of us went with one instructor and did mostly single track all day! Super fun. At the end of the day the other instructors were ****** at him because they were all stuck with pure newbs on quad/double track. LOL :)

Weldinglover - how's the 450 on the track? That things got to be a beast.

450 Is awesome Got me lots of Hole shots this year, and the ergonomics is the **** for how tall I am 6'3. brought me home Three Third place championships this year Junior, Gp Junior and Junior Off Road series SCR

Not what I wanted I was going for 1st 1st 1st But **** happens

Broke my Back at the end of the season so I missed 6 races at the end of the season. 7 weeks now on the mend of my Compression fracture of the spine over shot a jump at motopark by around 30 feet and broke my 5th metacarpal from impact landing.

Might Consider doing at MMRS race next year
Still unclear what My racing decision will be next year, Pretty sure I won't be doing Full race schedule just ones like walton and since I banged my back up might give it a while to mend before Irace will ride instead and just try to get faster that way.

I race MMRS. It's an awesome club, the tracks are a blast. I have helmet cam of every track if you're curious.

I looked some up on youtube, the club looks like they got there shiet together. and thats another thing i am getting a helmet cam for next year.

Are you guys done racing this year ?

Yea - I'd love to start racing, but since I'm still a dirt newb, I'm thinking I'll take another season to build some skills... (then you guys are toast ;))

I'm going to need a new set of tires for next season - what do you guys run / recommend?

I Was always a Michelin Starcross guy on my 125.
My KX450 eats rear tires like no tomorrow Loved the feel of the stock Bridge Stone 404 but in 5 - 10 Hours of riding this is what my tire looked like

Now I am running Dunlop Geomax it seems alright.

Just depends what you ride how you ride, and what your looking to get out of your tires, as soon as my tires get rounded edges I get new ones, looking at getting a tire doctor so i can make my tires square again after races make them last longer.

Hey - I rode that track two weeks ago! Had a blast there. I was lucky enough to get an invite from another good forum member, and now I've got a track 'membership'.

I'll be looking to try the Pit very soon too.

Hey boozerdave - get those seals done so we can do this shiz.

ah yes, i have many memories of that track, both good and bad, of note another DB dawg track, but this place has them for rental, and for sale, and they are the same price as you will find on the internet, they groom it really well, and often, that place is without a doubt my favorite track.

This weekend is our wrap up so it's a members only thing this weekend.

I am a huge fan of the Pirelli Scorpion M-S (Mid soft) tires. The rears don't like concrete hard tracks, so I'm on a dunlop 51 rear and a scorpion m-s on the front and I like the set up... But next year I'll have individual wheels set up with 2 different types of tires so I'll likely have a different combo.

Where do the Steel City Riders hold their Six hr MX these days?

Yeah if I came I would just be a spectator. but Monster Energy Cup is on also!!!

Well, at least it's at 10pm. Lots of time to drive from the track back to your TV!

We're having a 2 lap dash for cash. Top 3 guys in the classes start backwards. Considering I would have finished 2nd or 3rd if it wasn't for my mechanicals and crashes (I ended up 5th) I stand a good chance at taking home some cash if I can get out of the gate quick enough!

Yeah part of racing has highs and lows. Just get the hole shot and make a wide track !
I already miss racing.

The top three guys have to start back wards is pretty cool make them work for it.

Last dash for cash i was in was 2005 eagles nest and i was getting close to winning it and then i over shot the finish line jump there a little and my rear shock oil blew cause me to break my leg lol.

Good luck tomorrow
