Pilot Road 2 vs. Pilot Power 2CT

looking at a set of new tires for my zx6r, anyone have experience with these tires?

had Pilot road 2's on my last bike and loved them (sv650), but am wondering if i should go for a more sportbike oriented tire such as the Pilot Power, although i heard it has a short tread life (whats the average life of these) ive done 2500km in last 2 weeks, and thats light, so i need a longer lasting tire i think.

- I commute, and ride in cold weather, usually find my self in rain
- like to ride aggressively in the twisties

should I still go with a longer wear more versatile sport touring tire or try a sticky ss tire.
 
Depends what you do. If you ride the crap out of your tires and ride a lot outside of Ontario, I'd suggest Pilot Power 2Ct's, or even the regular Powers (cheaper). But if your bike spends most of its time in Ontario, i'd get Pilot Road 2's.
 
If most of your riding is commuting with some fun mixed in pr2's are the way to go IMHO. BTW, awesome tire, I love mine!

I disagree.

There are very, very few riders out there that can outride a modern multi-compound sport touring tire on the street. Any street. I rode on Diablo Stradas in and around Deal's Gap a few years ago. The newer crop of ST tires are far superior to the Stradas and they were still perfectly able to give me the grip I wanted.

Loaded Bandit almost 600lbs at the gap on PR2's with grip to spare scraping fairings and hard bags ;).

There is definitely a HUGE difference between a soft compound tire like a pilot pure vs a pilot road. If your a half decent rider you can shread the sides off a pilot pure if you go up/down THE GAP one time.

Also, I would recommended a softer tire for places like deals gap etc etc. Why? There is more of a safety net with those tires. A softer tire will save you and give you more grip in case something goes wrong, or you have one of those "oops" moments....

But that's not to say that a guy on a Pilot Road 2 won't be quicker than a guy on a Pilot Pure.......

I got through the gap in 12 minutes flat on Diablo Stradas with no shredding, no sliding, no problems at all.

Maybe you're doing it wrong.

first pass ever on the gap....and thats' only going one way...

I am sure people have shredded their sides way worst...

I find Powers "feel" better in the sense that they turn in with less pressure from me, but the Road 2CT's give me more than enough grip on the road.

Dude, I shredded my tires on my 250 at the Gap and Blue Ridge Parkway. All it means is that you're early on the gas, and quite hamfisted at that. Mind you, on a 250, there isn't enough grunt to cause any issues.

All I know is that my next bike will have PR2s or PR3s on them. We don't have enough twisties to justify any other tires really.

HARD ON THE gas = rear wear, not front wear.....


I AGREE! Roads here are not that great, thats' why I run PR2's in Ontario.

12mins...from where to where.....I will see if I can match or be quicker than that next summer I am down there.

Never timed myself, but I wasn't too much slower than the locals..

That center stand will be the death of me lol.
And I can do the gap in 12 min in my f150 with my bike in the back ;), no pics tho so can't prove it haha.
