Pilot Power Roads on a SS?

I got almost 26 000 on PR2. I installed them last summer (2010) - very nice for street riding. Very good holding the road in the rain, and amazing on a dry road.
Well, my ER-6N is not an SS though, and I'm not riding aggressive on streets...

The RoadSmarts (initially installed on the bike) were gone in 14500km...

I think the mileage was the issue/concern some have with them. At least one of them.

What do you mean by, '...they start chopping more noticeably too."

The Pr tires have a tendency for feathering on the sides, the 3's do it allot more then the 2's.

023s with well over 10,000 kms (way more actually) ,less than half worn rear, and front looks almost new. They were on a GSXR1000 that towed a trailer for 4 wknd long trips (1500-2000 kms each trip) thru NY and PA, then a week long ride to MotoGP races and back(3500 kms)Then I moved them on to my KTM 950 Supermoto and they were subject to Deals Gap for a week, using them like a bit of a nut in the mountains in TN(1500-2000 kms) in May, then a 3500 km trip to the MotoGP again, then a 1000km long weekend in Tennesee again.....I can't tell they are a touring tire when pegs are dragging,LOL

Forgot to add. I mainly commute so I bump my pressure to about 39psi. I checked my odo I mounted the tires at about 18,000 kms and now at about 36,000 kms so I may have exaggerated by 1000kms. Apologies.

I also bump up the tire pressure when I go on trips and have a bag(s) on the bike.

Something that is apparent from reading all posts is that too many factors affect tire wear to be able to narrow a tire selection down to 1 or 2 tires. Different people get different mileage results from the same specific tire no matter which one it is.

Some variables are (I am sure I missed a few):
- bike weight
- rider weight
- engine size (horsepower)
- throttle usage, some riders are smoother accelerators, some riders accelerate faster as their norm
- tire pressures & how often this is checked
- are wheelies done?
- is the rear or both tires spun or ever smoked up?
- type of riding usually done (ss road carving, long haul touring while making things last, rain riding which cools a tire)

So the answer well may be to select one, spend the money & see if you like it and if it meets your needs. Once that is figured out the manufacturers will introduce new tires to start the confusion all over again.

Have a great a day and some fun riding.

I don't understand how some people only get a season out of pp 2cts. Had mine on since the beginning of 2010 and they're still good for another half a season to a season in 2012.

I ride about 10,000kms per year (did a little less this year about 9,000) racked about 19,000 kms on them so far and there's still lots of tread left on them.

I lean all the way to the edge with no problems and i don't always ride conservatively.

How are these tires only lasting a season for some of you?

i do about 25-30k a season. the pr3s are awesome in the rain, though i don't think they are meant for heavier bikes loaded down with gear

Came across that we all need.

How about Shinko`s Smoke Bomb Rear Tire!!
Based off of the Shink 005 Advance rear tire
Designed to release different color smoke :colors: :colors: when the tire heats up to a certain temperature
Intermediate rubber compound
D.O.T. approved

can someone please teach me how to spin the front tire... PLEASE???

to the OP, people were beating bikes around tracks at full tilt decades ago before tires became to high tech. virtually anything you buy these days will be able to out perform you and the bike on the track, and it will definitely do so on the street.

i would be willing to write off most claims to tires sliding, not gripping, losing traction, etc... to rider error. grabbing too much brake, riding on cold tires, jerky throttle...

+1 agreed

Since mid-summer I've put on 10k on my f800s running PR3. Still have at least another 5-6k in these.... Great response and feedback from the tires, will buy again.
