Im looking at getting a fullsize truck in the near future. Im stuck between a 2008-2009 Toyota Tundra quad cab 5.7 and Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with the 5.7 hemi.

Im leaning more towards the toyota because of my bad luck with american vehicles in the past.

I'd like to hear from people who own or have owned any of these trucks, whats ur opinion? Would you buy again, what problems did you have etc...

I would suggest the Tundra only because I know the Rams tend to have faulty steering racks.

How about a late model Tacoma? Basically a full size truck. I have an '02 and wish it was a little bigger despite loving it. I think the '08's and later got bigger.

Don't be afraid of the domestic just because you hear rumors.

Id rather have a truck built as a truck. Those tundras have tail gates that bend when loading sleds in the back, that's the most abused part of a truck and they can't build that part to handle what my rusted out Sonoma could.

Also, the ram has the most hp and 2nd in class fuel economy. That tundra is a pig on gas in comparison.

Practically half of my friends own 2008+ dodge rams and jeeps (same manufacturing family) with very few issues.

2nd last in fuel economy.

Both trucks your looking at are thirsty for the fuel.

Look at the F150 with ecoboost, or the Explorer for 2013 with the same engine.

I forgot about the ecoboost. That's what I wanted, but couldn't afford the trim package to get the option.
Everyone I know with that motor loves it.

I drive a 2009 Chevy Silverado, basic basic package, love it.

"The big question for many considering an F-150 is whether to choose the EcoBoost or the 5.0L V8. Ford makes plenty of noise about how fuel efficient the EcoBoost engine is but I can assure you much of that is hyperbole. The EcoBoost, while still being the engine I would choose if buying an F-150, is only marginally more efficient than the 5.0. If you’re thinking EcoBoost for the economy — don’t. The best highway consumption I could achieve at 100-120 km/h was 14.5L/100 km. In the city, the figure was closer to 19L/100km average."

Meh. If your towing all the time, sure go with the 5.0.

The more you step into the gas pedal the more your fuel consumption suffers.
Ive had my Ecoboost as low as 9L/100 out on the 401 before. It normally averages between 11 and 13L/100.

If you want to go with the Dodge, consider going with a 2013 model, with the V6 Pentastar engine and the new ZF 8-speed auto tranny. 305 hp, 269 lb.ft. Stump pulling 1st gear ratio and a super tall overdrive, with lots to choose from in between. Haven't driven one, but everything I've been hearing about that transmission has been good so far.

Can;t afford a new one. Looking at 08-2009

I just got 12.89 L/100km on a fill up mostly HWY in my ten year old 5.3 Z71 Chev Avalanche

the toyota is a pig on fuel. 5.3 Z71 Chev Avalanche this is a nice option.

2008 tacoma was actually my first choice, with the quad cab and 5 1/2 foot bed. However after getting into one and taking it for a test drive i quickly realized this thing is SMALL as hell! Id rather pay a bit more in fuel and get a full size where i don't feel like im in a civic.

I don't even like Fords, but if I buy a truck, it will be Ecoboost. Period. Tons of torque when you need it, and no boost and low fuel pressure when you don't. It's like a big block when you wanna tow, and a small V6 when you just cruise along empty. Best of both worlds. When will the compettion catch up? Who is gonna be the first to build a 3.5 litre turbodiesel half ton truck that can tow 10,000 lbs and get 30 mpg?

You should actually calculate your fuel consumption instead of looking at the little display on the dash. You'd be surprised at the difference.
