Congrats, you'll love it, I love mine. As for the mods, motosliders frame sliders from svracingparts.com, rear shock(I have a zx6r 636 shock on mine, night and day difference) change the internals on your front suspension or gsxr 600/750 front end conversion, the suspension on the sv is garbage, and a slip on or full exhaust to get rid of that tank of an exhaust lol that's what I would say is necessary for the sv, enjoy bud

danesetti,
An exhaust is definitely on the Wishlist, kind of strapped for cash now so the others will have to wait, but what kind of price range am i looking at for a Slip On vs Full Exhaust?
I assume a Slip On wont give much or any performance gain, what could i expect from a Full System?
Do motorbikes even have Cat Converters?
Does a Full System also include Headers, or is that a separate product?

thanks,
jason

slip ons generally only for the sound.
full system should include header pipes.

IMO, u just got the bike, just ride it as is first for awhile. get used to everything. worry about mods later.

100% agree
I rode mine stock for the 1st year to get a feel for it, then mods start to make sense. keep your money in your pocket for now !!

Nope, do the suspension mods asap. I always regret waiting to uprgrade Suzuki's streetbike (as opposed to SS) suspension.

I agree with everything you've said, except the exhaust part:

If you've got the means and the skill I HIGHLY recommend chopping the stock exhaust. The only thing(s) you need are a grinder, a drill, a few 1/8" rivets (and a rivet gun), and perhaps a soft mallet.

The result is a deep throaty sound, a shorter (better, cleaner looking) pipe, and $500 still in your pocket -which you can use to get wasted (or buy gas :p)

Voila!

Happy SV'ing!

^^ nice, I don't have the skill to chop my exhaust lol, I have a yoshimura trs on mine, and op I suggest just a slip on, full system is about double the price of a slip on, and if you do that you'll have to add a power commander or it won't run right, and it gets expensive, I lost trying to convince my wife to let me do it lol

It's his first bike so I doubt that he can tell the difference right now.
Best "mod" would be to learn how to ride it properly.

+1 I have many mods on my SV650 and with each one I noted a difference. I have yet to do any suspension mods as I don't feel they are require (for me) right now. I still enjoy my bike and push it as hard as I can ( or want to ) and the suspension feels fine ( for now ) . I am sure if/when I do switch I will be able to provide a deep insight on to the improvements this mod provides, but you have to really learn to use what you got before you get what you want.
