Pet insurance-worth it? Recommendations?

...plus they are definitely mutts but they are going to be big mutts. I think it's the weight plus walking on hard ground that aggravates things like dysplasia too, I know some of it is genetic.

John, you're welcome to bring them out occasionally to run in the fields. It would give you an excuse to go to Hillside for a coffee.

Might do that later...right now I'm having a job persuading them not to eat dirt, chew shoes, plants, etc or steal my socks and to stop barking at rocks.

I remember those days, enjoy. I strongly advise you not to buy new furniture for the next 8 months.

The more mutt the less chance of genetic/breed related stuff like hip dysplasia. But that comment is too late as you've already got the dogs. Personally, I just set aside one of my 6 mm or 30-30 shells for issues like that. Sure I love my dog, but it's just a dog. They make more just like it every day that need rescuing. Flame suit on.

Had to do that once back home, where pet healthcare was unheard of. With the healthcare here and the availability of insurance, I don't see a reason for disposing of pets that way when they get sick, unless off course we still want to live in the mindset of the 19th century.

I really didn't know the benefits and effects of pet insurance until I was facing a very large vet bill for a yellow lab, and its too late to get coverage then. I'm MANY thousands into him now , three ACL repairs, yes, three on the same dog.

There was discussion after the second before the third of not putting him through 3 months of immobility and 6 months of rehab. But the discussion wasnt about putting him down over money, it was over his possible suffering. Two years later he's better than ever and a great family friend.

Yellow lab, purebred = $ 8k @ 5yrs in vet costs
Black lab/collie cross = $425.00 @ 10yrs
