Personal Rules for riding...

- Wash/polish/wax bike every week (adds cool factor pt)
- Ride with left hand on thigh at cruising speeds (adds cool factor pt)
- Bike must be shiny before leaving the garage (cool factor)
- Wash/polish all gear every other week (cool factor)
- Ride on 1st gear through Downtown
- Never wave at scooter and E-bikes
- Zoom past bicyclists
- Ride alone or no more than 3 other ppl
- No ride in rain, 30+ temp, 5 below temp, but in snow

I wear as much gear as I can for the ride.
Take a rain suit on day rides to keep the rain away. Cause ya know it's gonna rain if you don't have it with you.

When weather permits, always wear shorts, flipflops and no shirt.

1) always take a double left turn from the left most lane
2) assume every driver is on the phone
3) it's ok to wave at scooters now that e-bikes make them look talented.

Is #1 just in case the driver in the other lane runs wide?

1: If I make it home alive; it's been a good day.
2: If I crash, pick it the **** up and keep riding it.
3: Wear gear.
4: No stupid **** (I'll admit, last year I did a few rather questionable things.)

I don't have rules but I found next good points:

- pass cars on a right side with extra care
- feel the road, watch for every small detail.
- slow down when some car a coming to intersection
- try to eyes contact via car mirror with driver. people feel it and check mirror then.
- avoid blind spots
- track cars behind ( yeah, i had one rearend on traffic red light)

Don't get hit.
Avoid rules and rulemakers.
Think instead.

That last turn before my street, turn right instead of left then end up in Port Dover
Avoid rush hour.
no alcohol
Wave to other riders, even scooters.
Ride alongside e-bikes and pace them for a distance....

I don't have too many...

1) No Alcohol if I've decided to ride. Ever.
2) No riding if I'm too tired.
3) Always wear my gear. Even if it's too hot.
These are pretty much mine but I've gone for 5 minute rides around the block without proper gear and don't expect anyone to feel sorry for me when I end up all rashed up. I really shouldn't. Usually, if I skimp, it's only on leg protection.

I'm not a drinker.

-ATGATT, but that is my own belief and would never force this on anyone else
-always wear earplugs
-avoid rush hour. Hot and impatient car drivers can vent frustration on motorcyclists
-don't ride mad, don't get mad (I'm still working on this) while riding
-Wave to other riders, even scooters.
-if a cage has made an idiot move, there's a high chance that s/he'll make another one, in front of you, so move away
-don't ride in blind spots. Be especially careful with trucks and buses.
-use cages as blocking devices when going through intersections
-If you are the least unsure of any complex traffic situation, especially at intersections, honk your horn, slow down and keep your guard up
-detect trouble situations and then not be there
-If you are in an unsafe situation, break any and every law if it will make you safer
-assume all car drivers do not see you. Eye contact means they are seeing through you, not at you.

-NEVER take the bike when I'm in a hurry; take the car. 2 tons of steel will get me there.
-Always have rain gear handy. You never know.
-ZERO alcohol if I'm riding. Yes, I can handle one or two, but prefer to err on the side of caution.
-Pretend I'm invisible.
-Ride your own ride. It's not a contest and no one is judging me (except the Harley and BMW snobs!)

ya, heck you have to watch out for that stuff even when you're in your cage! Someone is always turning into the incorrect lane to make an on-ramp or a timmies or something.

They're usually not trying to get anywhere special. They just don't know how to drive properly. If you watch people turn in the GTA, 90% of the time they will turn into the wrong lane. Right turns from the left lane and left turns from the right are pretty common, too.

I have one beer if I go to a patio, always stay a safe distance back from the cages ahead, don't stunt, wheelie or speed on city roads!

When it's hot out I wear helmet & gloves...yeah I squid it but I am more comfy that way instead of sweating bullets!
