Hey everyone,

i wanted to know if any of you have a personal list of rules you follow to keep yourself safe when you're riding? For example, my list is as follows

1) no riding after 11pm (too many drunks on the road)
2) no riding when exhausted or ****** off (takes focus away from riding)
3) no riding with people i am not comfortable with (witnessed too many accidents and close calls in early GTAM group rides)
4) no music while riding
5) always wear my gear (if it's too hot, i leave the bike at home)
6) no riding up shoulder of highway anymore (picked up a nail that decided to leave my tire when i was doing 120 down the DVP later that same day)

I know it seems like an exhaustive list...but it's mine...what's yours (if you have one?)

I don't have too many...

1) No Alcohol if I've decided to ride. Ever.
2) No riding if I'm too tired.
3) Always wear my gear. Even if it's too hot.

Mine is pretty simple, already have to many rules.

1. No Booze
2. Wear Gear
3. Don't Ride with idiots

1. Ride it like you stole it.
2. see #1

1) Always wear as much gear as possible
2) Always brake early and rev match, go through all the gears
3) Bike in 1st with rear brake on at a stop unless clutch hand is cramping
4) Park at the end of a spot (to be visible to cars passing by looking for a spot)
5) Always wave to fellow riders
6) Always ride with the visor down even if its nice (used to ride with it up for the fresh air but not worth bugs and crap getting you in the eye)
7) Don't be pressured by other vehicles, take your time and don't rush if you end up stalling or start off in the wrong gear
8) Don't take a left faster than 60, don't take a right faster then 45 if there's traffic
9) Don't ride when you're PO'd, I'll take my bike out, but sit next to it at the nearest spot to chill out before I actually start riding.

So when do you actually ride.

1) no fat chicks.

1) Take a dump before you ride
2) Ride like others on the road is trying to 'nail' you
3) Helmet and Gloves for sure, discretionary on others
4) Don't ride when you are in a bad mood, will impair judgement - some dude lost his head 'literally' because of it
5) Obey traffic laws and don't ride faster than you normally would be driving a car - why would you go 200+ on a bike with no protection and go 120 or so in a car with a 'cage' to protect you and airbags??

1) Amount of gear is determined by weather.
2) Avoid ATGATT nazis and their lectures about my unsafe helmet.
3) One beer limit.
4) Tim's is for coffee, donuts and peeing.
5) Don't wave at scooters.
6) Filter when traffic is at standstill but give right of way to cyclists.
7) Only make eye contact with cute girls or other riders with cool bikes.

1. Don't drink
2. Limit drinking the night before
3. Keep an eye on your speed and look far ahead (I just got a ticket so updated my list recently)
4. Music/headphones are kept at a reasonable volume
5. Helmet, gloves, boots, leather jacket at any trip over 10 minutes.
6. Helmet and gloves for any trip under 10 minutes (convenience store runs etc.)
7. Don't wave/look at scooters
8. Always think about my actions with the intention to learn and develop further
9. Exercise best judgment on "Time & Place" shenanigans.

Seems like alot of rules on here considering most people enjoy the freedom of riding a motorcycle.

I agree with zx600 and retro grouch

1. Gear
2. Ride within my abilities.
3. Watch for people trying to kill me (and that is everyone)

1. No drinking

1. No booze
2. Don't ride when angry or distracted by other things
3. Full gear
4. Don't ride with knob ends
5. Clean helmet liners regularly (eww)
