Im so upset, i just need to vent!
So the other day im shining up my bike and i notice on the right side tail end, there are these huge gouges to the paint. Of course i get upset and vent because i really take care of my bike. I figure, maybe something may have somehow scratched it in my garage. Yesterday, i start getting annoyed with my right side mirror as it seems loose and will not stay in the position i keep setting it in. I figure it may need to be tightened, but didnt have a chance to do it last night. This morning, im driving to work, and my mirror breaks right off, being only held on by the turn signal wire! As im riding, i notice that there is black electrical tape all around the base of the mirror (which was covered by a rubber peice of the mirror, which is why i didnt notice right away). In my head, i start flippin out that someone busted off my mirror and tried to tape it on without me noticing. I start then thinkin about the gouges in my paint and think some loser must have knocked over my bike! I park my bike and figure if it actually was knocked over, my frame slider would be scratched as well (considering i have NEVER dropped my bike before). Well......my flippin frame slider is gone!! I just cant believe someone would do all this! I mean, to even go to the point of removing the slider?!
When ever the bike is at home, its in my private garage and no one else drives it! the only thing i can think of is when i drive it to work, i end up parking on a side street with a few other bikes. I can see it from my window and i check on it regularly, but never noticed anything weird.
Im just so annoyed!

If its a common bike, someone may be fishing for parts. ?

My first bike was a popular model (Suzuki GN250 in NZ) and side cover was a popular thing for getting "lost". Now to steal your frame slider?? that would require tools??

Chances are someone you knew, or someone in general tiped over ur bike, did a half *** job with the mirror so u wouldn't notice right off the bat. My friend knocked over my old bike last year, and the frame slider was totaly obliterated, so its possible that's what happened

is the bike used?

you somehow didn't notice the issue with the mirror in the last few days, so it's conceivable you bought it that way.

my buddy bought his bike off a dealer and some of the plastic had been badly glued back together. not the thing everyone notices right away, and unfortunetly the bike was tucked into a row so it was impossible to see while parked.

I just nod my head when I read stories like this. This is why I have so little faith in people these days.

I feel your pain. A lot of people just plain suck.

Ya, the bike is used, an 07 CBR 600rr, but this is my 2nd yr with it. The mirror's were after market ones that i had put on at the end of last season.
i actually took a photo of my bike less than a month ago from the right side (the damaged side) and i can clearly see that the mirror is in tact, no scratches, and my frame slider is there.

sounds like someone you might know since they went through the trouble to hide the damage...someones feeling a little guilty near you...sniff them out...or someone needed your parts...

"i notice that there is black electrical tape all around the base of the mirror" - a random person on the street wouldn't try to hide the damage. I'd bet there's matching electrical tape in your garage.

lol if this was done on the street by someone random then kudos to them for being able to do all that without anyone noticing... especially if you check your bike regularly from your window. That sucks that your slider is gone, but really thats not serious damage.. take a breather, cheap parts broke.

Do you sleep walk? I doubt this happened on the street

wasn't there someone else on the board who recently discovered little garage gnomes damaged his bike? I'm going to have to keep an eye on this thread :)

Wow that Sucks.
Though I agree that it just may be someone known to you, as I wouldn't think a stranger/vandals thieves would take the time to hide it.

I would spend the rest of the week angry, and paranoid of everyone around me. When bitter enough, I would begin asking people if they have black electrical tape so you can tape up your mirror, and see if they start sweating balls.

Yea, a lot of the general population are just retards ( most should already know this ). On my old R6, someone took a lighter to my rear mirrors and melted all the plastic around them, like seriously..... why ?

Given that the mirror was aftermarket, I doubt that anyone was parts shopping. How was the frame slider mounted; on it's own bracket, a frame bolt, or engine mount bolt? Was the area, where it was mounted, damaged? Could it just have coincidentally backed-out, due to vibration and a lack of thread lock?

With the electrical tape my gut instinct would be that it was a neighbour, who accidentally knocked it over and was trying to hide the damage.

Frame Slider gone = not a random person. A random ignorant person wouldn't know it could be removed, and wouldn't "happen" to have those tools on them.

The problem with this being someone i know, is that someone would have actually had to have access to the bike. I have my own place, meaning no one else has access to my house or garage. When i get home, the bike goes right into the garage. I only recently started riding it to work, and thats the only time its out in the open and unattended.
The frame slider must have shattered on impact (glad it was such poor quality). A part of it is still attached under the fairing. Atleast it saved my bike somewhat.
Im not upset about the parts, none of it was expensive. i just had my original mirrors put back on, and used some touch up paint on the scratches. I was more annoyed that someone would do this and try to hide it.
