Peel regional police - Toronto Sun article.

The police are nothing more then the henchmen of the banking and police elites.

even if SIU was notified and a report was filed, who cares? there was a scalding article earlier this year where SIU blatantly flames ALL of the police services for lack of profesionalism, hiding and tampering with evidence, not reportin to SIU etc etc and that NOTHING was being done about it.

Its like those parking tickets that say "hey you parked here and its illegal, but this is just a courtesy ticket, you dont have to pay" 100% of the people will scrunch it up and throw it away...if SIU has no bite than what is the point of it? to report misgivings about the police forces but not be able to do nothing about it?

I've seen both good and bad from them..

The good:
-They handled one accident scene admirably. They kept the traffic flowing and still gave enough space for the ambulance to safely pick up the victim. When one bonehead STILL tried to get through the block, they chased him down and ticketed him with great efficiency as he deserved.
-Had the occasional chat with some and they seemed alright down-to-earth guys

The bad:
-One bonehead driving down an unlit street (new development) with still a decent amount of both vehicular and foot traffic, at night, with no headlights on. I highbeamed him to remind him to turn on his headlights
-A few weeks ago, at a local (non-political, just social) gathering, they bothered law-abiding citizens who gathered peacefully and threatened tickets and whatnot but they did not do the same with a drunk who was stumbling with an open container of alcohol (ended up falling and breaking it right in front of them).

Like any police service, they've got both good and bad. Unfortunately, like in any other police service on this continent, the blue line allows for the bad ones to go about their business as usual.

Well you need some people, with a law enforcement background, in order to properly understand the job and hierarchy.

I've heard this many times before, but given the track record and how toothless SIU is (see G20 charade of late charges which would never happen without Torstar), I'd say I'd like to see it actually run for a while without people whose past is in any way connected to law enforcement, otherwise, it's always one of their own ....

those charges will end up with nothing happening

Those charges would have happened, without The Star, if the public had bothered to come forward with all of those pictures and videos of various incidents. Instead they didn't, until they could obtain a little temporary fame form it. The SIU received no co-operation from designated witness officers, and so couldn't identify the subject officers. The public was of no use, until The Star lambasted everyone involved for lack of action.

So which one is it? I think you agree, you just don't want to say it ... :-)

I am not disagreeing with you ... let SIU be completely independent of any cops. Let it run for a while and re-evaluate. Until that happens it's all just talk how bad would it be etc.

No, I don't agree. Members of the public, who won't step up, are as much a problem as anything else is. "Not my business." Yes, it is. You get the society you deserve.

i have been going to some cops court dates. like sheldon cook, warren willaims, christopher ferllot,
and at the end of some of the cases when found guilty. at sentencing when the cop is led into the cells.i always yell out "i hope you meet troy davis"
and you should she the nasty looks i get from the p.o.s. family fellow cops, wife, parents, etc. i always look at them and say "what could you posibly say to me?

the artical is wrong he was found guilty of 8 of the 9 charges against him. i was there. the only one he got off was he had weed in joint form and they put them together with the 1 lbs of weed he allso had. he was also convited of having stolen a whole lot of them mp3 players.
and he got 5 years 8 months of jail time

^ That's more or less how I see it too. It's not that SIU cover their "own" but more a case of PRP street gang dodging them and not reporting issues that they are required to report.

Having civilians review the cases isn't a viable solution because they don't have the experience or understanding.

What needs to happen is something along the line of all cases, regardless of what they are landing on an SIU annalists desk so that department can determine what is going to be investigated. Problem there is the sheer number of cases vs. manpower.

Still.... if the system is changed so the reports are specific to the event and file numbers can be flagged then it would eliminate simple cases without incident.

That takes away the situations where the higher ups cover their favorites, make handshake favour for a favour deals and handle things "internally".

Usually it's a case of the department protecting it's own (as someone said) because in their opinion they think the officer is a goldenboy/girl and something like killing someone while on duty would effect their career progression.

My organization tends to overlook the mistakes made by the "good" guys and hammer the shitpumps for any minor mistake they make. It's not uncommon in any organization where performance and conduct effects progression.

Right or wrong it's the way of the world.
if we can train doctors from scratch, we can train civilians non ex cops to be members of the SIU. ********
