Parking on grass bylaw?

Do you guys know if there is a bylaw in the city of Mississauga about being able to park on your own grass in your driveway? I've got a narrow single car driveway and there is almost enough room for 2 cars side by side. One of the cars tires slightly go over the edge and are on the grass, my own properties grass.

Ive got an aggressive Neighbour who came to complain the other day telling me I can't do that and that she will call the bylaw officer on me.

Do you guys know if such a law exists?

The only bylaw mentioning parking on grass is regarding the boulevard portion of the driveway, between the sidewalk and road. You cant park there.

Extend the driveway sideways with some stone or pavers, if you dont wanna look like trash.

I know in Kitchener my old landlord (Complete *****) told me I had to park on the grass as she was moving in the basement and she was taking the driveway (3 car length driveway and I had 1 parking spot on the lease).
I called By-law and they said it was illegal to park on the grass, so I told her she had to park on the grass as it was illegal for me and I had 1 legal parking spot on the lease, So she parked there and every morning the by-law would give her a ticket lol.

But for a tire I am not sure as she used the lawn as a parking spot.....

My neighbour was like that, but more like a whole truck on it. Looked trashy but we didnt care, made our lawn look a lot better ahah

He ended up widening his driveway and it looks awesome now :)

Just go to home depot and pickup some flat blocks and extend your drive. You just need enough for whatever touching the grass, however you can't extend it a full car length w/o permits, etc.,

We don't need to lengthen it, we need to widen it. So I don't need a permit if I'm just adding a little bit to the edge to widen it? Like some blocks or minor interlock?

You need to read the by-law that Short Stop posted (and perhaps other bylaws..). You may be able to widen your driveway but there are usually rules about how much you can widen, what percentage of your yard width can be driveway etc. Bylaws like this exist to protect the property value of your neighbours and the appearance of the neighbourhood. Nothing says crack-house like cars on the lawn..

+1. Check for permit requirements as if your selling afterwards, it can become an issue. Mississauga does have minimum requirements for homes to maintain a certain percentage of front yard. It's to prevent folks from paving their whole front yard for parking only etc.

The good old patio blocks are fine for a bit but, the neighbour could still contact by-law enforcement if you don't have a proper permit, your still subject to a ticket and may even face additional fines for the patio blocks.

They get tons of complaints so, contacting the City will get you the answers your looking for pretty easy.

OP - ive had something similar happen to me in city of toronto. to the best of my knowledge and understanding of the lengthy conversation i had with the bylaw officer in my case. you should let the neighbour call bylaw.
reasons: they work on a 2 step process.

Step one: they have to send an officer to check to see what bylaw your breaking. And if you work 9 to 5 or are rarely home during working hours, they will miss you every time. Since there is nothing to see, they will have to come by another time until they witness it.

Step two: they issue a verbal or written warning and you have "x" amount of days to change your ways. if you fail to change your ways they you get a ticket

There is a type of paver that has holes in it into which you plant grass. From a distance it looks like lawn but you can drive on it like normal pavers. Would that confuse the issue enough to make it go away?

In the arch business they are caller permiable pavers. There are a lot of good brands out there. Personally I would love to have my driveway made of entirely permiable pavers.

Just call the Bylaw asking that exact question lol

Say your calling cause your neighbor parks on the his grass and you want to know if it's legit lol

I would just call and ask, seems like your neighbor will do it before you anyway so you might as well call first.

Sounds, like the complaint I got last night.....

It's not a parking control issue, so it was not sent out, but it is a By-Law issue and I am sure the complainant will be calling in today to lodge a complaint.

There is a bylaw that prevents you from parking on your front yard, so you can get a ticket for what you are doing.

Call the City ask how wide you can go with your driveway, if it's just a few paver's wider, and or a 2X2 foot patio stone width I believe you will be OK, and no permits required unless this is going to exceed the allowable amount of driveway width for your property, again check with the City they will tell you the allowable width.

One thing you cannot do, and I know your not, is cut the curb with out a permit, and then the City usually does the cutting......

How wide can my driveway be?
You do not need a permit to widen your driveway but the widening must conform to the City of Mississauga’s Zoning By-law. For more information, please contact the Zoning Department at 905-896-5511 or e-mail eplanbuild.info@mississauga.ca

Is there a law against parking a number of bikes in a Toronto back yard. Let's say you had a dozen or so bikes on a ride and they all came back to your place for a BBQ. The driveway is too small or people are worried about their bikes and there is room enough between the houses to wheel the bikes through.
