Parking in own neighbourhood... (Downtown-ish)

So I'm finding it hard to get the info I'm looking for basically because searching for "parking" and "street" and "overnight" return a lot of results that I'm not looking for.

Basically I'm wondering what people on here do who don't live in a condo building or obviously a house with a garage in the downtown area. I'm going to be bringing my bike up soon and this will be my first time with it living here. My neighbourhood is pretty residential and I have a street tag for my car currently but will be switch to the bike for the season.

Do you guys just park your bike on the street in your neighbourhood? I realize no matter what I do it could get stolen, but leaving it out in the open seems like a complete invitation. It's not a flashy bike but it's built not bought and not "replaceable" by just going out and buying another. I also have nowhere to store it behind or around my apt. because I live about a retail space.

Any tips from residential downtown dwellers?
 
If your street requires a permit for overnight parking, then you have to get a permit for the motorcycle, they are not exempt.
I would have reservations about parking it on the street in any event.
Two or three guys can lift most motorcycles onto the back of a pickup and your ride is now being sold on Craigslist for parts.
I live downtownish as well. I was lucky and got a corner spot in the underground.
The bike goes against the wall and my car blocks it in (the space is large enough for both).
It's a pain because I have to move the car when I want to ride, but it is reasonably secure.
 
Yeah I know I'll have to get the permit, but it is free. My question is just regarding if anyone does it because like you said, they can just chuck it into the back of whatever in less than 2.
 
Maybe work out a cash deal with a neighbor that might have a spot you could use... mine used to go into a back yard. Out of sight out of mind ;)
Print out some info to leave with people in walking distance. May surprise you...
The worst they can say is no.
 
Maybe you can rent an underground condo paring spot $50-$100/mth nearby. Find one in good building in front of the camera and keep the bike covered with a heavy cover tied down. I personally won't be comfortable leaving bike out on road unless the bike isn't worth much and easy to replace.

Most condos say you can't rent to a non-resident. You might get away with it for a while but it would be nice to have a permanent solution.

Will they give out multiple street permits?

I see the occasional bike street parked on a regular basis but I'm too paranoid to do it myself.
 
I park in the driveway or on the street with my free permit.

Nothing major so far.

I once had some kids pull a banner off a nearby school fence and drape it over my bike. Same day the For Sale sign from the house it was parked in front of was pulled down and left leaning against my front door. Dunno what that was about.

Usually it's covered unless I'm going to ride the next morning.

One time I left the keys in it in a nearby Green P over night. When I came out a guy getting into his truck said he was about to take them and leave me a note so it wouldn't get stolen.

Another time I racked up $150 in parking tickets for parking between the sidewalk and the road for 3 days.

Another time I lost my key for a week (just used the spare in the meantime) only to go out on my balcony and look down at my bike and see the key on top of a short wall about 5 ft from my bike, lol.

Yeah it's weird eh, I guess its just gonna happen or its not right? Like unless its like a highly sought after sport bike it's just gonna be wrong place wrong time scenario...
 
When I lived in Toronto I was able to rent a garage from a lady that didn't own a car but had a garage in the back of her property. It was nice because it also gave me a place to work on the bike and had power running to it from the house.
