Parking commercial vehicle at residence in TO

Can't park in front of your own house for 3 hours if the neighbor complains.
I've been dinged by that one a couple of times now.

A magnetic company logo would cost far less than building a garage. Simply remove the logos when parked at home and presto, the van looks like a personal vehicle. This would also serve to give that complaining neighbour the finger!

So some Karen moves into the neighborhood and complains that it's an eyesore? I'd build the ugliest legal garage possible just to show them what a real eyesore looked like, or paint the very same company logo that was on the van on the garage door.

Every municipality has their own bylaw . Milton was one per drive , no fleets at home .
Oakville is none at home. However… park discreetly , don’t block side walks and leave crap hanging out the back and there are literally thousands here . In drives .
But one phone call to the bylaw guy .

I went to help a friend move a stove , took my small trailer. Parked at the house on the street ( allowed ) and blocked the drive of the house we were dropping the stove at .
Ticketed in 5 mins for blocking the drive of the house we were in . Turns out on going fight with neighbours caused the call .
Be a good nieghbor

wow, I've heard of this in the uppitty neighbourhoods and surveys in our area, didn't know it was across the board.

My buddy has 2 trucks in Etobicoke and a neighbour complained a few times. He’s in a side split with his parents … each driveway now has one truck.

Most times it’s a non issue until you get a ********* of a neighbour.

Jeez, if this is a thing in Hamilton, my neighbourhood is easy pickings for a bylaw officer. Just on our block, there's a plumber, an HVAC guy, a graffiti cleaner, a foundation guy, a slab jacking guy, a raw dog food lady, and me. There's a lady who strongly dislikes the foundation guy, but I don't think it's gone as far as that kind of passive-aggressive nonsense...

There's a lot of busy bodies around here as well. Used to be an, apparently, German neighbour that would call the by-law officers on you for ANYTHING he didn't like. He died right after we moved in. I'd have bylaw at my door every day for cosmetic work.

I had a guy take a pic of my deck from his roof because he 'wanted to show it to his wife'...we had some polite words where I threatened to call the cops about a guy that's taking pics of my young kids and wife when they're in the backyard.

The ONLY time I've complained was when a young guy was ripping up and down our 40kph street at 100-120kph as a test run for his car. I got a call from the police saying that they spoke with the driver and to let them know if it happens again.

My guess is there is some other neighbour dispute going on that got all this rolling. I would just remove the logos and put them on magnets or get blank magnets to cover the logos when parked if that is an option now.

If he wants to escalate, build the enclosure to the letter of the law but make the outside, facing the neighbour in question of course, as ugly as humanly possible but easily and cheaply corrected (ugliness) if he decides to sell.

When a track house *&^^box is seven figures, every neighbourhood is now full of uppity people.

yeah those 'nieghbor wars' always end up in tears.

some places you cant park a trailer, camper or boat in the driveway for more than 24hrs.
My old neighbour has a tent trailer under a tarp in his driveway. It has been there for a decade. It moves once every few years. At one point, someone threw him under the bus with bylaw and he dragged it away to paid storage somewhere for the winter. Next spring it was back in his driveway. It was still there last time I drove by. I don't expect the new owner of our old house will be as understanding. They paid four times what we paid for the house 11 years ago. People paying seven figures for 1000 sq ft aren't going to appreciate a tent trailer nearby.

In this day and age (especially for the person in the artical that's on-call 24/7) it's a pretty rediculous by-law. And considering how small the company vehicle is it shouldn't be a problem; it's not like it's a 5-ton.

I suppose his neighbour would prefer this:

I agree. Left over nanny by-law that really deserves a rewrite. Size limitation makes sense. Some form of eyesore by-law makes sense so you don't have a scrapyard next door but prohibiting a licensed small commercial vehicle seems excessively intrusive. They probably also need to include some clause for regularly driven or some knob will park a van that never moves to be used as signage in contravention of the sign by-law. License sticker (if it's still required) is cheap for a sign that is erected in a sign free area year round.

Ontario man no longer allowed to park commercial van in driveway after neighbour complains

I had no idea this was a thing. Has it always been a thing or did this sneak in 2013?

I hope he knows who that neighbor is. There are ways to make their life absolutely hell for being a snitch.

EDIT: You know what, for the sake of others who don't just turn their cheek, here's an obvious low-key way to make someone's life absolute hell with very little traceability: most people are tech incompetent. There are a **** ton of ways to completely disable someone's wifi network

In Etobicoke all it took was a commercial plate to make it illegal. Basically a pickup was illegal.

If you read the article bylaw said they don't go hunting and only respond to complaints. Obviously someone got their nose out of joint. Why, What changed?

Did someone move into the hood and wants to make it exclusive by eliminating trucks? If there was room for a dormant vehicle replace the P/U with a POS 30 YO Caravan storage van. If it needs a current sticker can you get a renewal with a storage only insurance slip? Old toilets make interesting outside flower pots. A black spray can makes any piece of junk "Yard art". I don't think the name of the complainant is usually given out.

Just before Sweaty Bob became mayor the previous council was pushing a TO bylaw that you could only park as many vehicles in your driveway as you had garage door width. Three car wide garage door, three cars--Two car wide garage door, two cars--One car garage door, one car. I think no garage was also one car.... Any extras had to be in the garage. I know we made it an election issue for our local councillor at the time.
