Parking Car+Bike in one Spot allowed?

Hey guys, somewhat unrelated, but i don't think it deserves it's own thread and it has certainly been discussed here before I think.

What are you guys living in apartments/condo's using as chain's or where did you get your chain? Obviously there are security systems, disc locks etc, but I'm wondering who has been successful with chain security in buildings with theft problems and where they bought them...

This is definitely one of those cases where it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Do NOT ask for permission.

The problem is that if forgiveness doesn't come the rider has to either move or find a storage unit for his bike. It's bad enough if he's renting but if he's an owner does he sell his unit?

The curse is that if the one vehicle rule is on the books one can't claim a grandfather clause if the rule gets enforced.

All it takes is one jerk on a bike to piss off a board member and his riding world comes to an end. Similarly all it takes is one self righteous shorts-in-a-knot type whose only knowledge of bikes is a B movie of thugs on bikes to have the same effect.

Bikes in condos is life on the edge. If the thieves don't get you your neighbours will.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Maybe add apartments in there too, but well said nobbie48.

As much as I agree and I like this, the recurring expense and possibility of some animal rights activist getting there panties in a knot is a bit discouraging. I'm not sure that's right to leave a dog chained up like that in the underground where the vehicles drive etc. However if you have a terrace like yours truly, and are parking your bike on it, it's certainly viable. LOL

I think the OP and I are still waiting for some insight ladies and gentlemen.

Just do it and don't ask for permission unless they say anything. Many condos do you have the one vehicle per spot rule, but if they're going to enforce it for you, they're going to have to enforce it for everybody, and there may be more than just you who puts a car and bike in one spot in the building. Also there's rationale for many condo owners to use one spot for a bike and car, because many condos don't have enough spaces for the amount of units. So it is in community interest to allow people to use a spot for a car and bike, or two bikes, so that other owners who need to rent or buy a spot for a car will actually be able to do so. In my situation (I haven't got a bike yet but will be in the next couple of weeks) I found a motorcycle owner in my condo who has agreed to share her spot with me.

I think the rule was put in place to stop situations where you have a bike being parked between two spots, rather than at the end of a spot, interfering with other owners, or situations where people try to put two smart cars in one spot… That's what I think the spirit of the rule is for so I don't think you should get a lot of grief. Google ALMAX or PRAGMASIS PROTECTOR chains and watch some videos of them. Very heavy and really hard to cut chains; a perfect deterrent for those who love what's not theirs.

If you get one of these, please don't make the stupid mistake of going to Canadian Tire to get a "heavy duty" padlock, I'll send the thieves myself for being an idiot; google ABLOY PL362 padlock and you'll see what a fæcking indestructible padlock is: http://youtu.be/NmZh59JNwI4Chinese video but these padlocks are made in the USA.

Close to $550 investment but if you love your bike like I do mine, it's worth it. And chain your bike to a goddamn pillar!!

You're welcome.

Now back to the original thread.

Doesn't really answer where to buy it or who of is using it , I've heard of Almax before. not the "PRAGMASIS PROTECTOR". However a quick google search pulled up this thread, which i think I've also seen before.

yeah i don't know about any of that but being friendly with them certainly doesnt hurt.

Nobody tried getting together and setting these punks up? Nobody is saying taking a bat to their head (unless the situation warrants for it), but it won't be that difficult to have them set up and arrested (a broken leg won't hurt either lol)

Unfortunately in our 1st world nation:

1. If you laid a hand on them, you would be first to be sued for assault. Kiss your professional career good bye.
2. If you didn't touch them and reported it in, the police don't seem to care too much (i.e. no one is hurt.. insurance will cover it).

I'm starting to think it would be better to rent a storage locker - but wonder how safe that would be.

Anyone have a floor anchor or wall anchor in their parking spot?

I can get permission to install one in my parking spot (condo building), but me wonders if I'm fukced when it comes time to remove it

I bought the biggest chain i could at home depot (aprox $80.00) and bought a lock that you could not get at with a cutter, it served me well when I used to rent in a building, one night 4 other bikes were stolen and mine was left alone, not sure if it was just luck they ran out of space in the van or the chain and the alarm
