Parking Car+Bike in one Spot allowed?

Hey fellas and ladies,

Anyone familiar with condo regulaions and bylaws?

I need to know whether or not parking a sportbike and car in one parking spot is allowed. I'm a homeowner with 2 car parking spots side-by-side, with 2 cars and 1 bike.

Rules will vary by building. (It's technically not allowed in mine, but everyone does it.)

+1 not allowed but every ones at my place is doing it..need to find a spot by a wall...cat park the bike between 2 cars and a post

It is usually not allowed more than 1 motorized vehicle per spot, depends on enforcement of the by laws.

Like most by-laws, it will largely depend on whether you have twats for neighbours. Most condos stipulate one motorized vehicle per spot.

2 spots? Sweet! Just park the moto behind one of your cars. More often than not, you won't be hassled as most riders do that exactly.

I park mine beside my car and chain it to a frigin' pillar, no one cares about it. I even got management to promote and advertise the floor anchors for motorcycles at my condo building.

Thanks for the replies.

I have 2 parking spots side-by-side with concrete walls on all three sides. Both my spots are sort of enclosed. These spots are dedicated to those who live on the penthouse floor with 2 parking spots entitled to per suite. One of my neighbors has his scooted parked in a space where it's not a parking spot, just some random open and unused area between pillars. I don't want to ruin it for him should management come after me. I'd probably inquire to pay monthly rent of a small fee for a similar unused spot. If it works it works, darnit.

Unfortunately, the management and board have a hard-on out for me so I'm guessing they'd be all over this IF they can.

It depends on your condo's rules but in most condos the rules will be one motor vehicle per spot, and in most it must be plated and insured. IME it will be part of the declaration which makes it very hard to change. Many do not enforce it but rules are on the books, all it take is someone to complain.

If they have it out for you, you either take one for the team or you out everyone else that does it and make them enforce the rules on everyone. Your choice...

Take a quick cruise around your entire lot; If others are doing it, you shouldn't have a problem. It's not allowed in my building, but I have my bike parked behind my car (as does the guy beside me, and his is in pieces). I think it's more of a gamble parking in a small spaces you don't explicitly own. And if you ask, then you'll draw attention to yourself. Just park it behind one of your vehicles.

In line with what I was thinking, I'll take one for the team no prob. Like I said, I don't want to ruin it for the rest of the poor fellas.

Exactly, if I ask it's already doomed. I drove around and noticed a large cruiser parked alone in a parking spot. Bike belongs to neighbor on same floor so I'm sure he has another spot for his car.
I can easily convince him to allow me to share his parking spot with his bike (big enough for an suv) for $30/month, but would this constitute as prohibited too since it's "one vehicle per parking spot"?

Yes.

Also have to be careful from an insurance point of view. Buddy had his bike and car in one spot and car got backed into. Crushed bike into wall. Insurance is still being dealt with, and this is year 3.

I'm not sure it you're checking on your current status or looking for a condo. Step one is check the bylaws to see if you have any ground to stand on. Then you go by instinct based on what you see.

The hard part is that all it takes is one Jackass to do something stupid, the anti bike squad comes out and the rules get enforced.

It depends on the condo board.
100%

I have to agree with Derek, it depends on the building board. My R1 is parked in between two spots, between two posts, I've been parking it there for a couple years, never had any problem. I don't even live in the building anymore- my friend still does though. Other people park there bikes in front/ behind there cars against the walls.

The building I live in now though says your not allowed to park more than one vehicle in a spot, ie no bikes parked with cars. However I speak to the superintendent somewhat regularly and we've discussed it, there is only one guy currently with a bike parked in front/behind his vehicle and they haven't made him get another spot or anything. they did make him unchain it from a pipe.

I'm pretty sure the justification for not being able to park more than one vehicle in a spot is it poses a fire hazard as its more difficult for fire officials to get around if there is a fire. The building is brand new, just opened-occupancy this past November. I've got several bikes- they won't let me park more than one in a spot with no car.

I know the building I lived in when I first moved into the city on/in Fort York, people had bikes behind/in front of cars, and spots with several bikes in them. Every building is different.

Every condo building is dif ... when I lived in my building it was great we had riders in the building and 1 was on the board. Everyone was parking bikes in there spots ~ it was a small building maybe 14 floors ... so about 150 units or so ? I counted at least 15 bikes in the garage so 10% of our building had riders in it. I even pushed it (with no issues) and had 2 motorcycles in my 1 parking spot with my car in it.

No issues with mine.

I guess as long you're not encroaching, why would there be?

I've been parking at my spot for years now, and it's actually in the middle by a pillar where I wrap a chain around to lock the wheel. Neighbouring parker nor the building hasn't complained.

This is definitely one of those cases where it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Do NOT ask for permission.

This.... do it until you get notified. Do not raise the question.

I'm renting 1/5 of a parking spot from a condo owner whose tenant is not using the spot. He rents the other 4/5 to a random guy in a brand new Audi. Audi dude is understandably not thrilled to have to share his parking spot with a 30yo rat bike.

Pretty sure this arrangement breaks more than one condo rule.
