It doesn't make sense to use racing as a benchmark. Those bikes are so different from street versions... Besides that, while one team is just entering racing the others have so many years of experience. I have to give credits to BMW for improving so fast, they have become serious title contenders in just a year. But than again, what does this say about street bikes... nothing!

A small detail: we aren't biaggi/melandri/haslam, let's be honest :)

Good point.
I just seem to believe that these bikes are meant for the track. If you have one of these bikes it should be opened up on the track and enjoyed, not for posing in my opionion, like all the supercars(ferrari and likes) sitting parked in yorkville. I cry when I see this.
If you have the money for the vehicle track the thing. Use it for what its meant.
If you can buy it you can service it.
I think the engines cry on those ferraris travelling an 60kph on University :(

Totally agree that we arent superhero racing atheletes, but we can try ;)

Hell yeah... it also doesn't make sense to date Angelina Jolie and just hold hands with her, right? Gotta race that thing to the max! :D

Being an RSV4 owner and having many other bikes present and past, I can honestly say the fun factor of the aprilia is unbelievable.

If you want track use, buy one of these from an ex racer for under $10k:

Comes with spare bodywork, will run down one of these in a straight:

...and has.

race bikes are definitively cheaper. For someone who visits the track often that would be best thing to do. But what about all the other days that you aren't on the track??? (for those of us who haven't too much cash to spend that's probably one step too far

I totally agree!! I put my RSV4 on the track, and now hardly ride it on the road. The power and handling seem like a waste on the street. Maybe next year I will take the insurance off and keep it for track only.

Cool. Must have been so fun. But then what are you going to ride on the street?

It should. It's a 2012 and the owner put a lot of time, work and money into it this spring. It's a great bike... not knocking it or anything. But my investment is probably 1/4 of that and the bike is a monster. I spend more time fighting it than I do riding it, but it's fun...

For the other days you aren't on a track a SS is overkill, uncomfortable and a waste of a purpose built machine. It does however give you something to brag to your friends, peers and the internet about.

I've had a run of SS's that recently ended when I sold my 1098 and I was going to buy one of the three you mentioned. Tested two (never got on the Duc) but the more I thought about it and researched the more it became a waste of money to me.

I would rather buy a used track bike that I didn't care so much if I dropped than pussy a brand new SS around a track. I'm not good enough to think I wouldn't wad it eventually.

For what it's worth I would have ranked them RSV4 > Ducati > BMW mostly because the BMW is hideous to look at and is riddled with mechanical failures and recalls.

That's just me and my why....

Props to anyone who has any of them.

good point... nobody want to crash his brand new bike the first time on the track. And about pussying your bike around the track that may be true if you compare what you could do with a bike that you aren't afraid falling with, but than still taking your bike to a track means you'll be able to feel its power either way. maybe not the way you would with a second hand bike but still you'll feel the rush that you wanted when buying it.

I can very much imagine 10K just being too much for a bike that you can use every once in a while. But it really depends on the intention you have with a bike

I think what BMW managed to do was build the ultimate Japanese 4 cylinder bike and knock the ball out of the park in terms of performance. They succeeded in doing that without a doubt. I think what Ducati tried to do was the same thing, beat the Japanese at their own game while retaining the Ducati feel and characteristics. I haven't ridden the Panigale yet so I can't comment but I am not sure if at this stage they have succeeded or not. What I find amusing is all the testers saying the Panigale has tamed the brutal power delivery of the 1198 when that was one of it's nice characterisitics and now they are selling it as a negative, pure marketing nonsense. Obviously on the track in race conditions it was harder to utilize all the power of the 1198 but then again Checa seems to have done pretty well. What I am assuming is the 1199 is easier to ride hard but that doesn't translate as a more rewarding street bike or track bike for that matter just better lap times. I do love some of the improvements they have made though such as the chain/sprocket driven cams, alloy larger tank, longer service intervals.. the list goes on.

Team? That's sitting near Brighton in Chris' garage.

Here's a pic of his stable... Yes, that's two other S1000RRs in that garage, and I think the Monster was replaced with a F800. There's also a KTM enduro in there now. Pic is from last fall.

so you would prefer the S1000RR over the Duc, or did I make the wrong conclusion?

I'd be in for the Beamer! Looking forward to getting one this fall if all goes well

I'm considering all three of these bikes at the moment... But leaning towards the rsv4factory...

There's a 2010 with very little milage going for about $14K asking price on cherrypicker right now. I considered it but it's the Tuono for me.
