packing for a tour

paper maps
zip ties
extra ear plugs
gold bond powder

These are all on my list (except I take Anti-Monkey Butt instead of GB)
Also you must find a way to take a cheap folding camp chair. It's a must have especially if you plan to do any vagrant camping.

A Leatherman type mutli-tool carried on your belt is handy.

Yup, love my Charge TTi, but a Wave works almost as well. Make sure you get the accessory bit set.

I have a cheap-o tripod chair I take. I think I even got it @ the dollar store for $2.50. It's held up well surprisingly.

Dammit I'm over-packed again !!!! Why the hell did I packed 10 pairs of socks?

I am surprised nobody mentioned mosquito spray but with THAT little stopping you don't need one :)

That's for sure! I wouldn't recommend that run to anyone; a KLR is an evil machine after about 9 hours, lol. Came in handy for bouncing on crappy roads in the country of Quebec though!

Any suggestions for your favourite offline map app?

If you have an android phone you can save maps for offline use. It's for viewing roads and your location only, no directions or search.

BEFORE you leave, with a data connection:

- Open Maps
- Hit the Menu button (or open the menu however you do it)
- Select Make Available Offline
-
Zoom to enclose the area you want to save. You can only save a certain amount in each file, and the size depends on how much is going on in that area. In the city you might only get a few km^2, but out in the country you can get a good chunk of the province.
- Press Done
- Repeat to cover the entire area you're interested in. AFAIK, there is no limit as to how many different saves you do. Each one takes up less than 10MB, so file size shouldn't be much of an issue.

That section of the map will start downloading. When it's done, you can open up maps with no data connection, and you'll still be able to zoom in and view all the roads within the saved area. I've used this a few times travelling to different countries or in remote areas with no cell service, and it's a life saver. Also free, and if you're on android it's probably the way you already use maps.

Forever Maps gives you the entire planet and location where ever you can get a GPS signal.

TomTom gives offline voice nav and

Both give you routing.
