Oxford heated grips

Hi guys,

Just bought myself the "retro" style oxford premium heated grips. The controller with the smart auto turn on/off if you forget to turn it off when the bike is not moving.

I've heard a lot of people say that these grips get HOTTTT. There are different setting from 30,50,80.100 and i'm always at max setting and I do not find these super hot at all. To be honest i'm kinda disappointed that when I put it at max level my grips are not super warm with my gloves on. When I take off my gloves and touch the grips, yes they are hot but when I was riding this past weekend in cold mornings and the heated grips were on... I did not feel any heat at all.

Am I doing somethin wrong or are these not really that hot anymore.....

I always found heated grips to work well when wearing light gloves on a cool summer morning. If I actually want my hands to be warm, I'll use my heated gloves.

I'm just wearing normal dainese gloves. I mean the whoel point of heated grips for motoryccles is to feel it with your glove on. Not sure if the wind made the heat off the grips go away or the cold weather.

Can't comment on Oxfords but the stock Heated grips on BMW s1kr & s1krr was very noticeable at the demo day last year. Had to actually turn them down.

I was wearing Alpinestars racing gauntlets.

First off, what type of bike are you riding? Sometimes older bikes just don't have enough power from the charging system to heat up the grips fully.

I have the same grips right down the retro style and they get plenty hot - I don't think I have ever used them on max, and I ride year round in some pretty cold temps. I have them on my FZ1 for reference.

I had this style of Oxford grip on my Fazer:

My only complaint about them was that the "knobby" features on the grips wore down flat quite quickly. I think the "retro" style would wear better.

Other than that wear issue, I'd recommend Oxford. They can get pretty toasty, the controller is pretty slick and mounts easily and they have that battery-save feature. Pretty nice kit for the money.

Weird. It's on a fz09. Did I get a faulty product? Bought it from gpbikes during their no hst sale. I've put it on max everytime and it takes like rougly 2 mins for me to feel any heat but yeah it doesn't get toasty at all....

I do have other stuff directly connected to the battery if that makes any difference? Like some other additional lights, and a battery tender plug.

Like others have mentioned it may be the gloves you are wearing? I also find they tend to work better with thin gloves..

Do they get really hot with your bare hands?

Not really hot that I can't hold my bare hands on it I don't think. Like when I was on the highway.. I did not even know if it was on or off. I had to check the controller lol.

Maybe other's heat tolerance are more sensitive than mine.

I've had Oxford heated grips on 3 bikes
always had way more heat available than needed
regardless what type of gloves worn
and 2 minutes is around what they normally take to warm up
on high to get going, have never been able to leave them on high
in the pouring rain @ 5 Celsius type conditions and still need to turn them down

FZ09 should have plenty of stator output to support these grips
can you get a meter on the switch and see what your voltage is there?

OP, i have 2015 FZ09 with the same Oxford grips as Blackfin posted. No issues with lack of heat from them, most of my commute is highway based as well. Maybe the retro based ones you have are different with heat output-i doubt it though. Reach out to the guys @ Oxford and see what they have to say. The MT09/FZ09 is a big seller across the pond, i'm sure they would have heard a complaint if there was one.

This morning commute, I toggled between 50-75% on the controller . 65 km, half of it on the highway.
