In the future i plan on using my 2009 Ninja500 to commute into work, can anyone suggest a good bag/option for carrying a dell laptop?
thanks

OGIO No drag backpack
very nice and comfortable! And I also like, that the zipper is from the inner side: prevents riding with unzipped backpack (which I did sometimes before.
It's not good for the laptop over time. Life would be so much more convenient if I could just put it on my dufflebag & strap it down with the rest of my stuff. Although I'm not sure how much padding is your trunk...It's always easiest to just throw it in the trunk?

I have a Cortech Sport tailbag. It worked pretty well as long as the load wasn't too heavy, and the bungee cords stretch over time and need to be replaced periodically. Overall a pretty good bag for the money with enough room for a 15.4 laptop in a padded sleave, power cable, shoes, rain pants, and lunch. For sale, $30.Cortech sports tailbag and soft side bags. The tailbag fits a small laptop just fine...plus I know it fits the EX500 as I used it on that. Not having something on your back is bliss for riding. I do use a backpack but if I can get away with not using it I prefer to.
I also now have the Kriega, hence the reason the Cortech is for sale. The Kriega is definitely a better bag, and fastens more securely, but it's not quite as big as the Cortech, and the Kriega was almost double the price (new).I use a Kriega us-20 tailbag.
I like it.
