OPP travelling opposite direction.. radar?

Hey,
I was going through Algonquin highway 60 and Unmarked OPP was going in the opposite direction. I was with a buddy who was about 3 car lengths in front of me. OPP passes both of us, and turns around and lights his cherries up. Pulls me over, says I was going 70 over (it is a 80 zone). Says I wont tow the bike, but will give you a 49km/hr over ticket. Honestly, I dont think I was going 70 over (that would put me at 150..and I know I wasnt going 150). I'm wondering how the cop even got to radar me.. he was traveling 80-90km/hr on a curve going the opposite direction (do radars work on oncoming traffic?).

Not that I pretend to know the amount of time that passed. But he passed you in the opposite direction doing 80km/h while you were doing and alleged 150 km/h. He stopped, performed a u turn, presumably 3 point and accelerated to catch back up to you?

Is he driving the bat mobile?

They're fast up there. Usually just a quick 'U'-ey. 3pt turns are for corollas.

Assuming a quick U. He'd have to be flying assuming the op kept the speed up. If not then I understand a quick catchup.

Once you're north of 7, unless you know all the little country roads, you're pretty much a sitting duck as they have a pretty good patrol up there. Don't forget they can always radio ahead and/or get the plane out if it's in the air.

he is right!
furthermore up their they use the radar. instead of the point and shoot laser speed detector. whats the difference.
with the radar the opp can sit around the otherside of a twisty road and before you see him or he sees you, he already knows your speed.

I've dealt with similar situation 4 years ago. Cop nabbed me going the opposite direction. My fault cause I was speeding in my cage on the country road with some hills.

1) Lawyer up. This is a serious ticket and your insurance will drop you.

2) Get a disclosure copy (cop's notes). Your legal representative should request it anyway. Try to find any mistakes to save your ***.

3) Make sure that police officer had his radar calibrated. Can't remember but I think they have to do it a couple times during their shift. He might have used "Genesis II" which are their superior radars.

4) If you can remember but, did police officer lose any sight of you when he was performing 3 point turn/Uturn? Did you go over a hill before he pulled you over? This might also give you a chance that he lost the sight of you for X amount of seconds.

5) This is just a reminder for the future. When a police officer pulls you over request his business car AND business card of his supervisor. They suppose to have it. If they don't then you might get even a better chance here.

Also I'm wondering why he wouldn't tow a bike? I've seen cops do that no problem. They just called a flatbed.

Some good advice from nikiter... Until this;

They're not supposed to have any other person's business card. They should have their own, but then they'll probably point out that their name and badge # are on the ticket.

And if they refuse to give you a card and it is in their policy to provide one when asked, it will have NO bearing on your case; it's a policy complaint and has nothing to do with the evidence of the offense.

Sorry about the last point there, there's a reason why I wrote it last. Read it somewhere on the internet and obviously got it wrong (good old internet). My apologies.
Anyways, had to go and confirm this with my buddy who's deep into the law stuff.
This is what he told me:

"His/her badge, his/her business card, his/her police identification card (or at least his/her name clearly on his/her uniform). He cannot point out his/her uniform or his/her gun. This has to do with the law and legal fact he is in uniform, for him/her to be in full uniform he/she needs the badge, business card, and police identification card for him/her to be legally in uniform, otherwise they cannot act in any other capacity than a peace officer."

The officer doesnt have to hand you anything except that yellow sheet. His names on the top and the badge number at the bottom. Having to GIVE you a card and/or his SUPERVISORS?? Where do people get this stuff LoL.

You got burned, got a break AND didn't get your bike towed and your licence suspended. You didn't have to rent a car to get back home, or get doubled on a 250. After court, be sure to pat yourself on the back; knowing that the next guy the cop gets on RADAR 50+ will not get the breaks you did. He exercised discretion and you are going to teach him/her not to do that again

YOU know how fast you were going because you saw the cop brake and u-turn and the first thing you did was look down and brake.
