Going westbound on QEW and just exited Hurontario. The middle lane, where I was, is a dual turn lane.. you can go left or right. I made a right and went wide for the furthest lane. Hurontario northbound is three lanes.

There was a lot more traffic and the OPP cruiser was half a car length ahead of me and he was cutting across two lanes.. I saw this and was going about 10km/h. He turned in to my lane and since his actions were very predictable, I braked and came to a stop and that's when he noticed me and stopped too. I signaled him to go ahead and when we came to the traffic light (about a 5 car line up) he gestured for me to come up to his window.

OPP: Hey, I'm really sorry about that.
Me: That's ok, it happens.
OPP: Again, really sorry.. I didn't see you.
Me: No worries, appreciate the apology!

What a nice guy.. they probably see way too many of these accidents but even drivers that we don't expect to make mistakes, do!

Not all cops are jerks either! :D

lol...i hate taking the outside lane on the turn, but usually it's onto a roadway that has an extra escape lane if needs be...too many times i've had people take the extra wide turn...cars, buses, popo, the likes...just got used to never sitting in someones blind spot when i am making the turn if possible...

I'm with you on this one.. but I had to make the first left and it was rush hour.. didn't want to cut across like the OPP.. lol

I really hate people that don't turn into the correct lane!!
If i'm in my crappy car, i hold my line and execute a pit maneuver on them.

However, i always appreciate when a person of integrity realizes their error and makes an apology, cop or no cop.

Cops are people...they make mistakes. Props to him for the apology!

Good to hear that some people actually apologize for their mistakes. You should have laid on the horn when he cut you off. Also your diagram is a little off, OPP have black and white.

Don't stop there! The cop car looks like a monster struck compared to the rest of the vehicles. And the size of my bike.. it's as longer than the car!

Good to hear you're okay and that you got an apology.

I would have told him to write himself a ticket. lol.

Most cops put the blame on you lol!

That's cool that he apologized and glad the situation wasn't worse for you.

did he have his signal on to indicate lane change?
Hmm.. I was wondering if this was me.. would I have hit my (stebel) horn or not. lol!

at least he apoligized. Surprised he didnt notice you before/during the turn. Most cops I see always are checking out my ride/bike etc. ;)

ah.. just noticed you said OPP and not TPS/York/Durham/Peel. somehow they failed to see me on highway 7 last week (which is a GOOD thing.. trust me ;) ;) )

Had something similar happen to me the other day too, except my guy wasn't a cop.

Me: "You really need to be a bit more diligent when you are pulling into traffic."
Him: "You didn't see my flashers?"
Me: "You're kidding right? So you saw me and chose to risk my life?"
Him: "I thought you were going slow enough to stop safely."
Me: "Now you're really ****ing kidding me."
Him: "I signaled"
Me: "Yup, signaled that you're an *******!"

I wish this guy took ownership of his mistake.

If you'd be riding a Harley with straight pipes he would have heard you and never turned into your lane... further proof that loud pipes save lives :lmao: (just joking)

Hey, cops are human too and this one apologized for his mistake. More of that attitude would make our roads safer... and props to you for handling it in a sane manner as well... some people would have been hitting the horn, waiving their fist and getting worked up. Mistakes happen... we need to expect them to happen ride accordingly.

I just figured he was driving an SUV and that your bike was stretched

Glad you were able to anticipate his actions and stay out of trouble. It is awesome he offered an apology. Police officer or not it's good to see people take responsibility for their actions. Goes a long way in my books.

I had a conversation with a local police officer about 2 days ago who pulled up beside me at a variety store. After striking up conversation he told me he was also a bike cop. I had to laugh when he told me he was using the unmarked car that day because it was too hot out for him with all his bike gear and a bullet proof vest.

If the tables were turned :

Me : Hey, I'm really sorry about that.
OPP: That's ok, it happens. I'm going to impound your bike for stunt riding.
me: Again, really sorry.. I didn't see you.
OPP: No worries, you're screwed, see you in court.

What a goof. they probably see way too many of these accidents but even drivers that we don't expect to make mistakes, they still impound their cars.

Some cops are jerks! :D
