Opening a PayPal Account

I'm trying to open a PayPal Account. I am looking at my bank statement for all the necessary numbers I need to plug in and pay directly from my bank account. Which freakin' numbers are the transit and bank numbers on a scotiabank statement? PayPal keeps telling me I'm wrong. Anyone?

I can write qualifier exams but I can't open a PayPal account... *grumble grumble*

Don't give them your banking information and if you can at all avoid it, don't use paypal to receive funds. They'll steal your money.

If it's in Canada look at electronic Interac transfers. Cost is $1.50, transfer is easy for anyone with online banking and an e-mail address.

Weren't u the one who say they were pursuing a Master's Degree ;)

Finished my MA in 2005. I'm ABD in a PhD, which explains why I can't figure out how to open a PayPal account. Apparently I'd need a Post-Doc to figure this out! Hahahahahahaaa! ;)

I just want to open a PayPal account to buy a pair of A* gloves online and not deal with credit cards, blah, blah. And a friend in the US owes me some coin for some parts I picked up for him. Wants to pay me back via PayPal. Everyone seems to use PayPal. I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

So no one has a Scotiabank account and can decipher the 5 billion numbers on the statement and tell me which are the transit and bank numbers?

LOL....I have been using PAYPAL for over 3 years and I haven't had a problem. If you just going to buy stuff, then close the bank account after you open you PAYPAL account. I just have my credit card on my PAYPAL.

I sent you a message on fb, Stormcat. If you're buying from stg, I just noticed they accept Google Checkout. You may want to check that out.

Why not just use a credit card?...
If it's not an option, just phone the number on the back of your card and ask them for whatever numbers you need.
They'll be able to provide them.

Nevermind your bank statement, use a blank cheque.

Along the bottom of your cheque is all the info you need:
1) the cheque number.......you don't need to use this for paypal - usually a 3 digit number, i.e. 005.
2) The next five numbers are the "branch" number.
3) The next three numbers are the "transit" number. (Every Scotiabank is 002)
4) The next 'group' of numbers is your bank acct number - I'm sure you'll recognize it.

Use the info from your cheque, and you'll be done in less than 2 minutes.
Good luck.

+1 for this.

I have a scotia acct. There should be a key at the front of the cheque

Notice the "receive funds" part of my post?

That's the thing, I don't have any cheques. I never use them, so I never bothered to order anymore. Hence the reason why I can't figure out which numbers are which on my statement.

Redridernl, FB won't let me read your messages again. Probably blocking your messages as spam since you hit on me so much. All those pr0n-type keywords tipped 'em off. You really gotta stop that. :p

Yeah, sorry. I can't help myself. Anyway, here is what I said.

You're better off getting your friend to do an interac transfer and borrowing a card to order online. However, if you really want a paypal account... I'm not sure if the transit number is on the statement. It should be in your bank book, if you have one. I always call the bank when I need it. A couple of minutes on the phone and you're done. Paypal has to verify your account, I'm not sure how long that takes these days.

I can help you out if you want or you can see what's around locally.

p.s. Just check fb on your mac instead of your phone.

Calling the bank sucks. Besides, I'm too lazy to sit on hold waiting for an available rep.

Redridernl, I can't read your messages on FB on my laptop either.

Usually takes me two minutes from the time I call to the time I get an actual person on the other end.
Doesn't take as long as you think...

^Really? Every time I've called I've sat on hold for at least 10 minutes. Using up my monthly minutes. Fine, fine. I guess I'll just call. ;)
