Ontario Healthcare Cuts

Nope... that is interesting though. After reading what you have there i googled what i presume you did, and came up with this: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/news/release/2012/may/bg_20120507_2.pdf propaganda plain and simple.

There is a huge difference between what a doctor "bills" and what they actually get paid ("salary"). Just another smoke screen to win the public over. Notice how they did not actually tell you what the average salary was? As an example, lets think of an MRI or similar test. A doctor will bill a professional fee and a technical fee for the test. The professional fee is what they are paid, the technical fee goes to the facility (hospital or the like) to pay for staffing, equipment etc. In fact in many cases the technical fee is significantly more than the professional fee. It is still billed using the doctors billing number however, adding to their "billing" total...

Again, this is not just about what doctors are paid... (see first post)

I read it in the Toronto Star. Their main argument was that the salaries had increased something like 75% in a few years which is not sustainable. Incurious then to what a Doctor makes?

I do remember seeing an article about the highest paid employees in the healthcare system. The top two were admin/execs..which was somewhat understandable..but #3 was an imaging technician..his salary was $580k. The first doctor was #4..he was a cardiac surgeon..I can't remember what his salary was..but I was blown away that a radiologist could make that much. Overtime I suppose..

is that gross or net though? because thats a big factor here.. a business with 580 k of revenues is nothing.

Yeah, no clue. This was probably 3 years ago. I guess you just figure doctors would be far and away the top earners, especially the specialized surgeons etc who are on top of their game. I think the top was an administrator at Sick Kids...$790k..I'm sure that's gone up considerably..

No offence to the OP..but I don't think you can summarize the problems of OHIP in a one page website. That's a little optimistic..

Summarize the problems of OHIP in two words: Dalton McGuinty!

Yep. There are plenty of nurses that make 120+ with overtime. All the numbers are gross, not net surely. No one reports net income.

Most, if not all, of these top earners have no life... all they do is work. It is not a 40 hour week. Probably closer to 80.

The problem with these cuts is that it also affects the the people that make 25k...

Lol I do support this cut. They lose 13% of their salary. Boo hoo. I know for a fact that they make on average 50k /mth.

They can make $64 dollars for making an image with a computer!!!! Which takes them less than 1 min!!

Technology has advanced a lot in the past 10 years, which helps doc see more patients faster. These cuts do not affect family physicians yet.

It will affect family MDs when they can not get the tests they need done...

These cuts DO NOT just affect specialist salaries.

Sorry I thought I put radiologist in my other post for that salary... And the radiologists can offer their services to other hospitals which can boost their salary even higher. Be mad all you want.

Yes I'm a kid and I don't vote. I just like arguing on a motorcycle forum. Tard

Look up stats for professional fees for MRI studies. You may be able to find the fees on the cihi website under icd9 or icd10 I think.

I don't have a problem with grossly overpaid specialists having their inflated public salaries trimmed but I'd also like to see hospital admin suffer the same fate too.

Isn't the average salary of a doctor in Ontario $380K? It's gone up at unsustainable rates in the past few years.

I just am always surprised when price controls & rationing and eat-the-rich b.s. inevitably result in a crappy service from a socialist driven model and people refuse to acknowledge the root cause as socialism. All the tweaks in the world cannot avoid that you need to privatize as much as possible to ensure best product for best price, period.

who makes 25k in healthcare? I think the McDonald kids make more than that if they didn't have school. An honest family doctor makes less than 100k and the ones that over bill makes more.

Whenever I come back to Toronto I'll stop to see my family doctor of 20 years and now she gives me a check up on the spot in the waiting room where everyone waits for the doctor. Ask a few questions looks me over and a minute later writes me a prescription. It's like an express line up lol. I'm guessing she makes over 100k.

the american system has the best product (at least, if you have the money, it does). . .however, no one can legitimately argue that it does so at the 'best price'. . .the statistics regarding cost of health care don't lie. . .

best care comes with a cost. i would love to know a country that offers world class health care at the 'best price', because i'd be sorely tempted to move there (barring it being a war zone, of course)

that being said, i think we don't have the 'best system' here. . .but it's damn good, and i'm glad we have it.
of course, i also think that there are 'efficiencies' (thank you fat rob for that one) that need to be explored. frankly, the system is a huge burden on our taxes, and if ways to reduce costs there can be found, then even it is not immune to solutions. if the libs are asking for everyone to tighten their belts, then they'd better be true to their word.

lol, unfortunately, somehow the cops managed to extort pay increases out of 'us', even in this time of austerity. i guess they alone are immune to the economics of the day. good thing we're paying extra to have our civil liberties and charter rights trampled on. . .

You ever notice how healthcare and education keep getting cuts, while law enforcement, military and beurocracy don't suffer? Next step will be privatizing prisons...

France....socialist model and some of the best healthcare in the world.

As much as everyone including myself hate income taxes it must go up to pay for the increasing healthcare cost but every politician knows it's political suicide so they try to get creative giving it other names.

In Alberta any politician that even hints at bringing back the provincial taxes gets front page news and a barrage of hate mails to their office.

But if they don't increase taxes they have to cut spending. But no one likes to have their programs cut so it's a lose-lose situation for politicians. Just look at Mike Harris and Ralph Klein people still hate them to this day for all the cuts they made yet were running budget surpluses and erased the provincial debt.

So politicians can't raise too much taxes or do major cut spending. Their only choice is to spend to appease the voters. But hey that's democracy!
