Ontario allows all police officers to carry Tasers

The word I am looking for is "buying" where is the money to buy a taser for each officer?

Just hold another G20 conference in toronto, we (taxpayers) can buy shiny new sound cannons for each officer, surely this is more effective and less dangerous than tazers!?

They won't tell you that. It comes from all of us of course. Some hidden load of crap that somehow will benefit john q public in some way but in reality will just cost us in another obscured way.

Edit: If they all had tazers then the people that support things like the idiot kid on the street car could shut up and we could just waste our tax dollars giving him three meals a day and a home. :rolleyes:

If this is in response to one cop being and idiot with a gun and getting charged, it's a bit ridiculous. Sounds waaay too much like:

Politician: Mr. Taser supplier, with all this heat on the gun incident, we can get some pressure to equip the whole squad with tasers. But I will have to be "convinced" the product works.

Mr. Taser: Well sir, perhaps I can help you with that time share you were looking for in the Bermudas...we can discuss the effectiveness of the Tasers there.


The only thing that will happen if all cops have tasers will be their increased trigger happiness to use them without realizing the risk to those with heart conditions. Google unnecessary taser use in the US and I'm sure you'll find plenty of cases. How about just tightening up the hiring standards instead to keep egocentric trigger boys off the force?!?!

Yep. Not content with the rest of the citizens being second-class compared to the police, now they have more weapons to keep us in line.
 
What can go wrong?

ok wait for it, a 15 your old kid will be killed by a tazer (tazed numerous times by several officers)

I thought some Police Departments have stopped using these things due to the risks involved and the easy abuse by their Officers.

I can certainly tell you it will not be me tazering someone to death in a questionable manner.

I don't support what seems to be the Police us vs. them attitude.
It's on a path to failure but then again this creates and breeds the responses from the general public that allows them to rationalize their ideology. I support neighborhood Policing. Hiring the RIGHT types of people to begin with.
Yes, I know some will slip through the cracks but put in place a system to GET RID of the bad ones quickly and easily.

Think about what happens when kids start to view the Police as their enemy and not friend.
 
If it means they're less likely to go for their gun in order to defuse a situation, then so be it.

But I'm fairly sure what this really means is that cops will be more likely to escalate force in order to use their shiny new tasers, where previously they wouldn't have drawn their sidearm anyway.

See body cams would actually be a smart thing...it can protect both cops and the public and probably make the court system a whole lot better. Tasers on the other hand, not the greatest idea but honestly they would still come in handy from time to time in rough situations, but then it can easily be abused. Having both tasers and body cams would be the best thing to do then you can see why & how they use their new toy.
