One of my winter projects....

Hey guys,
I finally finished my lighting project that's been ongoing for the past two months or so! It wouldn't let me add all the pics because it said I was over my filesize allowance :(. Anyways, its an '04 ZX6R....I modded the headlights so that both lights come on instead of just the one on low beams and added in LED strips, HIDs (projector retrofit), blue demon eyes, white angel eyes, and some orange pods for the grill (not turned on in the pics). This was definitely a test of my wiring skills, and I am unbelievably happy to be done and have everything functioning properly! Now just have to sit tight till Spring :)!

you might have charging problems in the future, lighting systems are balanced with the charging systems, how is the amp draw at idel ?

Looks awesome, Makes the bike look alive.

How does your highbeam work now?

Almost all projectors turn your one light for lo beam and the other hi beam into the same as H4's where they are both lo and both hi. I am assuming this is the same.

HID's draw less amperage than normal headlight so she should be okay there, LEDs draw minimal amperage....

I've ran separate power lines to the battery for both the HIDs and the pod lighting. The HIDs are still controlled by the original headlight harness though, however don't draw power through the stock wires...hopefully that helps to explain it. The pods are wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse, I wanted them this way so that I can turn them on without the bike running (with this bike, the engine has to be on to turn headlights on).

It is an H4 kit, but to set this up for my bike to run with both lights I installed a relay and changed the wiring so that the lowbeam wires go to both headlights.

Frig I don't even think I'd do this ever again even if I was paid good money! It's a b*tch of a job, and requires a great deal of patience and frequent trips to PartSource :( Good luck to you with your lights...if it helps, my buddy did his CBR600 and it was significantly easier than it was on my bike because of how the stock wiring is set up.

Can be done to any bike. Just requires some wiring.
Nice work OP, looks great.
Wow great work!

Do you guys know how and if this can be done to a 2012 Ninja 250? I can't find anything online.

As Ashkun said, it can be done to any bike, but it does take quite a bit of time and effort, so I'd recommend only doing it if you plan on keeping the 250 for awhile....if you're going to be moving up to a bigger bike any time soon I wouldn't bother with it...but to each their own :)! Try looking on www.ninjette.org

What kit did you use?

Looking at doing this to the FZ6 if I get some extra $ this summer.

I'll just throw this out there for anyone considering do this.

For some people/bikes the cutoff in the projectors actually causes issues while turning. I know its a common issue with the retrofits in the 03+CBR RR's. Basically what happens is at a moderate and severe lean angle there is only a very small beam projecting on the road ahead. Not a great thing when your trying to see where you are going. Obviously to some people this may not be a concern or noticed due to the lighting conditions of the environment they are riding in.

I've built about 80 of these kind of headlight retrofits. The first time took me about 11 hours, now I can pop them out in about 4 or 5 hours.

If you do source the job to someone, don't always go for the cheapest. You get what you pay for. A good retrofit will cost at least $600 to do (parts included).

I always use a separate line for draw even though the hid's use less than half the draw than the normal headlights do. This one guy wanted 8 projectors in his r1, I used a few morimoto mini's. It's been 2 years and haven't received a complaint with too much draw. Than again, the guys that I normally build these for don't really ride, mostly hang out a tim hortons.

On my 05 zx6 636 i've been using them for about 4 years with no problems to date. Bi-Xenon h5's and dual angel eyes with led strips at the bottom.

That looks awesome! Good job

just curious, how long did it take you to do it? Directed at Kawi Girl
Well, I did a little and stopped and came back to it, all in all, with the dual headlight mod and everything it was about a month and a half I think. As I said, that was with like weeks going by without doing anything though. A very committed person could probably get it done over a weekend if they know what they're doing. A noob would probably be best to go about it bit by bit and not rush.
