Depends on what you were into, at the time. CFNY played a lot of Madness, back in the day, and this song was well known long before "Our House":

I guess it comes down to what you define as being a hit, at least as far as mainstream rock and pop goes. Lots of stuff gets critical acclaim within their niche target audiences, but that's not the same as being a "hit" as far as North American commercial uptake goes. Lots of stuff gets airplay and videoplay, especially on alternative radio and specialty shows like the Dr Demento show, but true top-40 and even top-100 charts are another matter. CFNY used to specialize in the off-the-traditional-wall stuff. I remember first hearing Andreas Vollenweider and his Dancing with the Lion single on westbound 401 late at night, and CFNY played him a LOT back then, albeit at night. I promptly went out hunting for the CD, and finally found it at the downtown HMV after hitting several stores in suburbia without success. Here's one that got a fair bit of late-night airplay when it came out, well, on certain types of alternative radio stations (CFNY) and on Much Music videoplay at the time. It's sort of intriguing, especially when you translate the lyrics from their original Latin, but I'm not sure I'd call it even a pseudo-hit let alone a hit. ;-)

Closer to home, saw these guys when they were doing the local bar circuits in the 80s. I'm thinking it may have been the Riverside in Oakville, which hosted a lot of breaking bands on their way up.
