This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily shut down. We've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on. It's been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!

You will be sadly missed. PirateBay just hasn't been the same since I purchased my "legal defense fund" t-shirt :( ... now who will I use?!

BTjunkie was still around?

demonoid and isohunt

...and isohunt
I have an isohunt t-shirt, but haven't been there in years, guess I'll head over there again :)

...usenet for the win.
Usenet FTW. I just get such insane speeds , downloaded 3.2TB last month at an AVERAGE of 9mb/s, that's 75mbps! Rogers terminated my account, so just switched over to TekSavvy unlimited DSL. Download speeds are 1/3 that of Rogers, but loving the 7.5mbps upload! Sharing is caring :)

7.5 up? that's nuts. I just switched from DSL (BMTS) to Distributel Cable. Paying for 15Mbit but getting 24 is pretty nice. There's been a couple rough patches with the service, but overall I'm pretty happy. I was trying to get Acanac cable, but they kept cancelling the install after I ordered cause they claimed that Rogers couldn't find my house LOL

OMFG I tried to sign up with Acanac twice, two years apart! They messed up the orders so bad both times. I ended up going with Distributel unlimited DSL (slow as crap, about as reliable too) and got a smokin price on the home phone + dsl service, but just too much problems with the phone service, and internet too. Went back to Rogers, home phone and internet. Paying for the 50mbps down/2mbps up package but usually get around 70mbps down and 1.5mbps up. I downloaded 3.2TB last month and I guess they don't want me as a customer any more ;) Just switched to TekSavvy and loving it so far, can finally stream some stuff (two channels at 720p 3.5mbps each, and it doesn't affect my download speed at all!). Sucks the download speed is only 25mbps, but they said they'll have 50mbps in the near future!!

mmm.. teksavvy :happy3:

7MB/s upload?!?!? Finally a reason to switch to DSL from Cable (I'm also with Teksavvy).

Finally we can host gaming servers capable of supporting max number of connections!!!

Yeah, being limited to 1mbps all your life, I guess you just get used to not being to do anything "cool" hosted at home! Just think of all the cool stuff we can do now!!! CounterStrike Source server is installing right now ;)

Loving the ping times on this TekSavvy DSL as well, every game server I connect to it's uber low!!

Lulz, and I just convinced the g/f to finally drop cable TV and booked a Teksavvy install into our new place.

Anybody want to trade a good private tracker for a Racing Underground update? :D

I'm waiting to see what some of the other players will come up with before switching to 25/7.. In my case, probably just PBX, mail and Funambol

One thing I really like about teksavvy too is that you can get a static IP for $4/mo and they don't block ANY ports! Even 25 incoming!!! WOOT. That'll save me some money on no-ip mail redirects ;)

Going into my second year as an Acanac customer and no complaints here. Love the unlimited download although it's only 5 mbps... For home phone service use freephoneline.ca. It cost $50 to get set up and free for life including long distance. I've been with them for 4 years now and flawless. They give you SIP settings that you can put into your smart phone as well... My android phone allows for VOIP calls so I can call anywhere in Canada for free through data even when out of the country.

As far as these pirate sites going down... There is nothing like usenet. The oldest and most reliable... Been with them since 2002 and would never give it up.... Always fast and retention is like 1200 days. I use Usenetserver since they offer $95 a year. They don't post it on their main site for that price so you'll have to google the price and find a link... Not sure why. Use an NZB site like nzbtvseeker.com and nzbmovieseeker.com and its as simple as piratebay. Just my 2 cents...

Also, if you decide on going with freephoneline.ca you can buy the Phone adapter from Canada Computers for around $50 and freephoneline has all the config data on their site.

I know you can typically get statics for the same price with Caneris, so I'm waiting to see the 25/7 pricing as it will come out at SOME point. Base prices on GAS were a little bit lower.

A sad sad day indeed. There was some talk about redeveloping the torrent clients to use distributed indexing (i.e. the same way files are distributed, allow the search / index feature). I hope this come to fruition because I just see big brother cracking down on many torrent sites.

I tried switching from Rogers to Acanac multiple times but no luck since they don't service our area. Rogers has our area monopolized....but today we finally switched to a different company FINALLY. After many years of Rogers tyranny and control. I looked into Teksavvy as well but no good. Nonetheless I'm glad I finally got out of Rogers control grip and into an Unlimited bandwidth ISP.
