The crusades were more of a defensive act. This is kind of like the Shia who use force when they are cornered unlike the vicious and bloody Sunni who have been slaughtering people since their perverted interpretation of Islam in 632:

The Sunni only read their sacred texts and if you question what is written at all then you are questioning Mohammed and God which is a Sunni "no no". So, they are essentially religious drones reading their blood soaked texts.

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. This excerpt explains clearly why our little terrorist Omar Khadr killed an unarmed medic and apparently they have video evidence of him making an IED. This is an example of why the Sunni will kill you whether you are armed or not and whether you are a threat or not:
Bukhari (52:256) - The Prophet... was asked whether it was permissible to attack the pagan warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and children to danger. The Prophet replied, "They (i.e. women and children) are from them (i.e. pagans)." In this command, Muhammad establishes that it is permissible to kill non-combatants in the process of killing a perceived enemy. This provides justification for the many Islamic terror bombings.

Religions preach violence and hatred towards those with a diffirent belief in the very text. Some of it may be misinterpretation yes, but the root of the violence is in the holy texts which followers believe to be the word of god. When it says 'wage war on non believers' or ' eliminate the unfaithful' or 'strike your wife' if she doesnt listen... all in the text, there is not much room for misinterpretations. If it walked like a duck and quacks like a duck...its probably a duck. people need to stop excusing these violent texts.
Religious texts, while possibly being inspired by god, have been heavily manipulated to serve the base human desires of those who wrote, translated, transcribed, and collated them. Even without this corruption, the best they can represent is the degree of socio-cultural knowledge of those responsible, and we've come a long way in our scientific knowledge and understanding since then.
As a collection of fable, parable, and allegory, they should not be followed verbatim. Those who do are simple-minded and/or brainwashed.

This is true. And if even one line of a supposadly holy text is change, then that text becomes invalid. When so much of the text is changed as you said and no one know what part was changed, then the whole thing becomes useless. Its no longer the word of god (not that it ever was) so then throw away these ancient outdated barbaric self serving texts and use your brain people! There are countless atheists or agnostics who do so much good for the world without any need of a supernaturel being. I have many atheist friends who run charities for all (not a select group) including help for the homless and anti-war groups. This means you do NOT need religion to be good but religion does make good people do horrible things.
