Okay, Who Did It This Time? :D

The initial speeding was on Yonge Street, not the 407. The bike had no license plates on it. At one point the rider with passenger on board ran a red light when the cops tried to signal him to stop there. Several times the cops were right with the bike and it still refused to stay stopped. I'd say the rider did more than enough to warrant any expense incurred in tracking and finally arresting him.

**** didn't read that. Well I guess they wanted him badly. SMH. And having an M1 doesn't actually mean he's a novice but I get it.

Do I think it was worth it? No one got hurt and he cops did what they felt they had to do. However, if someone did....

Interesting. So in terms of penalties what are the differences between the two, unless this has already been answered somewhere else on the forum.

Dangerous driving conviction = a criminal record. That alone can carry far more potential for harm and discomfort than anything the HTA172 can throw at you.

Also, dangerous driving = automatic minimum 1 year driving prohibition, and possible lifetime prohibition. Assuming nobody has been hurt or killed, you can also be fined up to $5,000 and be sentenced to up to 5 years in custody. If you get custodial time, your license suspension is automatically extended to the length of your custodial term plus 1 year.

HTA172 carries more potential for monetary fines, but far less for custodial sentence. Minimum $2,000 fine, maximum $10,000 fine. Automatic 6 demerit points. On conviction, up to six months in jail, and up ttwo years license suspension for first offence, up to 10 years suspension for second offence. Plus the roadside 7-day suspension and the cost of the roadside tow and 7-day impound. Most first-time offenders get the minimum $2,000 fine, no jail, and no additional suspension.

Good to know. In this situation it looks like the HTA 172 would've been the least of his worries; just an additional inconvenience considering everything else he would have to deal with.
