Oil change after every winter???

MY OPINION ONLY

I immediately change the oil/filter on every bike I buy, but then I never buy new.

I do regular oil/filter changes at 3-4000 kms.

I do an oil/filter change when winterizing then don't start it until spring (unless winter mod season requires it.

What can I say? It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

That all said, if I were you, I'd do a change and then put a lot more k's on it!

Suggest you change your oil before storage. Used oil is full of acids that during a long rest - 3 months of winter, simply EAT away at your metals.

No need to change oil after the winter. It's as clean as it was in the fall.

If you store a bike at a dealer... make sure the oil is changed immediately. If in his garage/basement it sits until the end of february before he changes your oil, the acids have already done their damage.

They both wear out with use, they both degrade over time. These have been your arguments.

Oil goes through a chemical breakdown!!

Whats the worst that happens when a plug goes bad?

Completely irrelevant.

What were you on when you dreamed this one up? Oh, don't tell me you saw it on the internet so it must be true? That's the reason that there are no more vintage bikes, they were all eaten away by engine oil.

I do mine once a year. Cheap insurance. Filter is $8 and another $12 for oil. No brainer.

I'm more amazed that you only put 500km on a brand new 1198 in one year....

Anyway, my opinion is to change the oil at either; a) before winter storage every year, and b) at the factory recommended interval (for me is 5000km). I use synthetic oil, so I'm already exceeding factory specifications, and I'd not want to store a bike in dirty oil (motor oil gets acidic over time). In spring, just start 'er up, and see how fast you can get to the next o/c interval!

Read every post. Interesting debate. It seems as though there's no right or wrong answer.
I'll be changing my oil next week.
By the way, the reason why I put only 500kms on the bike is because I bought my first house last summer, and had my hands full.

and it's also a Corse Edition 1198s. It hurt me more than it hurt all of you.
