Offering advice to new riders

what is the worst thing to come out of this. the young couple roll their eyes and tell him to mind his business. or they take his advice which in turn could potentially save their lives.

When you chat with an adult smoker or excessive drinker, do you educate them about the health risks? Probably not.

Leave it alone, advice regarding safety gear is never new to a motorcycle owner - there will be no epiphanies after a sermon.

yeah, you were out of line if the advice was unsolicited

Gonna point out that anyone that doesn't agree with this has their head up their *** and ego too high. If you can't figure out why, dig deep.

And before someone makes the wrong assumption: I am full gear 99% of the time. The 1% is when I feel like being an emo teenager or in flip flops on track with no helmet and a wife beater (I know all you track junkies do this too!)

what is the worst thing to come out of this. the young couple roll their eyes and tell him to mind his business. or they take his advice which in turn could potentially save their lives.

Earth is overpopulated. Couple of deaths don't mean **** and is doing the planet a favor.

Anything can be rationalized.

The OP is a product of an over-governed socialist mentality. Who the **** cares what gear they had on? Seriously, hate to sound harsh but you have this coming. Instead of thinking you're doing them a favor by offering advice that is safer for them, stop and think that taking your car is safer than taking your motorcycle. Better yet, stop gagging on the corporate dick of Starbucks, and spend your energy riding your own damn bike and let them do the same. I remember some Pinot swilling twat giving me the hairy eyeball and muttering to her pussy whipped shell of a man because she saw me taking my son for an ice cream on my motorcycle (yes he was geared up). Is this a Burlington thing? Go ride for Christ sake.

A+, that was fun. Would definitely read again.

Both favor and Starbucks are U.S. People all over are wallowing in their ignorance and apathy. At least some more generous souls try to enlighten the unwashed masses. Stick to swilling beer at the trailer instead of telling others what to do - do you see the irony?. :p

If you got on the ATGATT soapbox at the Forks on a weekend you'd need some serious throat lozenges to keep going. Some of the outfits ....or lack there of...VERY skimpy on some girls makes one wince....and ogle in equal parts

Holy **** I did not know this.

Time to visit!

They make armored leggings for riders now...this shows you where the sportbike scene is going or has gone.

**** people are so uptight in this city. Some guy was just giving his advise to what he perceived to be a young dude with 2 weeks of experience. Not sure why he had to create a thread about it but who know maybe he's bored. If I'm shooting the **** with some kid and he's a novice and not wearing gloves, I might say in passing "dude, get yourself a pair, cause that ***** hurts like hell and show him my scar"

The hell with minding your own business, it's a society for a reason. Of course if it's some dude with full patch 81 vest and he's wearsing bareass chaps and whatever else, then yea I'll mind my own business and keep my opinion to myself :). So much anger over so little things...

wondering why it makes it okay to give motorcycle advice?
after being away for awhile, I flew back into TO
took the UP down to Union and loved the solid column of people out on Front
walking 20 abreast, all with somewhere to go, no BS, no one gives a F about anyone else's business
why should that change because your'e on a bike??

I have some really good advice for all of you guys.

Motorcycles are dangerous, take the car instead.

I wear full gear every time I get on my motorcycle. FYI, the coffee shop is 50 km from where I live, not that that matters. I didn’t realize I needed an invitation to tell a story here.

Thank you, you are right. I actually did ask them first if I could offer some advice.

It wasn't a walk over and lecture ...it was part of a conversation about bikes.

My take tho would be ask the new rider if they'd mind a tip?

Launching into an atgatt lecture not likely a good move with a guy and his girl.

Thank you. I wasn’t bored, though, it was a serious inquiry.

I am really quite surprised by all the nasty comments to my post. There are a lot of angry, hateful people out there. Yes, I did ask for comments, so I appreciate everyone’s input, but still...

I was not expecting the nastiness of some of the comments. I thought motorcycling was kind of a community, where people support and help one another, like on discussion forums like this, as well as on the street. Several comments were to the effect that everyone knows the risks involved with riding a motorcycle, but I don’t believe that is true. Young people, especially, do not have the experience or the knowledge to properly evaluate risk. My sole intent in offering advice to this young couple was to try and help keep them safe. I thought I was doing a good thing. I do not know if the guy had taken a motorcycle course; most certainly his girlfriend had not. I wish that some old guy had taken the time to talk to me about safety when I was 18.

If they said yes then there is no issue but at 18 no one listens. A 16 year old in awe of a new machine and with a fresh licence might ....18-20 boy ??? ...invulnerable.

Reminds me of Mark Twain ....

A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way. - Mark Twain -

The girl might take it to heart tho .....

I know up at the Forks I learn stuff all the time chatting with the hardcore distance riders and even listening in.
I think you'll find more of the community in the ADV crowd ...StromTroopers
https://www.stromtrooper.com/index.php?pageid=active_topics
is a very civil community but then the majority of riders are mature ( aka known as tolerates ugly bikes for comfort and durability )

No one including me likes ATGATT police on forums so you may be running into that. I wear what's appropriate and I determine that.

Your advice might have helped them but more important, made you feel better for doing it.
My 2 cents.
