Now at McDonalds......

Really?
One teaspoon (4 g, 0.14 oz) of bacon grease has 38 calories (160 kJ).[SUP][37][/SUP] It is composed almost completely of fat, with very little additional nutritional value. Bacon fat is roughly 40% saturated.[SUP][37][/SUP] Despite the potential health risks of excessive bacon grease consumption, it remains popular in the cuisine of the American South.
Nutrients

Four 14-gram (0.5 oz) slices of bacon together contain 7.45 grams (0.26 oz) of fat, of which about half is monounsaturated, a third is saturated and a sixth is polyunsaturated, and 7.72 grams (0.27 oz) of protein.[SUP][38][/SUP] Four pieces of bacon can also contain up to 800 mg of sodium, which is roughly equivalent to 1.92 grams of salt. The fat and protein content varies depending on the cut and cooking method.
Health concerns

A 2007 study by Columbia University suggests a link between eating cured meats (such as bacon) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The preservative sodium nitrite is the probable cause,[SUP][39][/SUP][SUP][40][/SUP] and bacon made without added nitrites is available. Bacon is usually high in salt and saturated fat; excessive consumption of both is related to a variety of health problems. See the articles on saturated fat and salt for more details.
Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health found in 2010 that eating processed meats such as bacon, preserved by smoking, curing or salting, or with the addition of chemical preservatives, was associated with an increased risk of both heart disease and diabetes.

I don't eat bacon full of sugar and nitrates. Don't be afraid of animal fat.

Look up the Paleo way of eating and eat REAL food.

Our standard diet today is an abomination of what we were meant to eat.

And if you're really interested in educating yourself, take 15 minutes to read this article before you post random links to mis-information.

Now that comment opens up an entirely NEW can of worms!! I personally like to think this true:

In using comparative anatomy to determine what man was "meant" to eat, we should look at the species most similar to man, namely the anthropoid apes--chimpanzees, gibbons, gorillas, and orangutans. Of all animals, man's digestive organs and teeth most closely resemble these apes. In captivity, some of these animals will eat meat if forced to rather than starve to death. But in the wild, all eat a vegetarian diet.
(From http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/674/are-humans-meat-eaters-or-vegetarians-by-nature )

Oooh lord. So instead of comparing our genetic ancestors you want to compare us to something genetically similar (but not close enough)?

If you're a vegetarian there's no help for you. And I was a vegetarian for 10 years.

I'm actually a pescatarian but that's irrelevant... And I didn't say I thought it was true, I said I'd LIKE to think it true. But from my research (namely watching the movie 1 million years BC) it seemed man had a lot of trouble finding meat, so it seems likely our diet USED to consist of very little meat.

Sneaky ninja edit.

Fair enough. I don't eat a ton of meat, but I don't eliminate it. I just don't eat grains, sugar, or dairy (less strict about this one).

I love nuggets. I haven't had them in a while, though, because everytime I eat them I get the runs. Maybe its a sign that they're no good for me....or maybe it's a sign that ordering 40 of them as a meal isn't a good idea. Either way they're delicious. ;)

40? How many sauces? 15 cents is going to add up for you.

I'd say about 4. 1 sauce pack is good for about 10 give or take. 15 cents per sauce pack is getting pricey.

Did you guys hear about that new $5.50 tax you have to pay everytime you want to fly into the U.S? Man...it's a hardknock life!

That article is over nine years old - a lifetime in scientific research terms - and draws no solid conclusions, only raises questions based on what everyone admits is still an unsolved riddle. The few definitive statements revolve around extreme amounts of carbs and fats, as well as sugars. Some of the citations involve anecdotal evidence presented by casual observers in the mid-1800s.
I'm not sure what your criteria are for unassailable sources of information, but for now I'll stick with "random links to mis-information" from the likes of Columbia and Harvard, as opposed to a decade-old piece from a newspaper.

I get that. It's not a definitive piece, but it's an eye opener. You're free to believe whatever you want. But fat has been villified by those promoting the stand north american diet and I believe that is incorrect. Look at our health issues and ever growing waistlines and...well....something's out of whack.

Im hooked to their ice coffee. Plus a small coffee with a muffin for $1.39? Now that's value.

I don't care how bad the sausage egg mcmuffin are for mybody I will always buy one when I am up that early.

I'll take all of CanadianBiker's bacon.

+1. Went to all subway and started to lose so much weight. Love it!

Shameless plug?? :)

Weren't our ancestors nomads who chased herds of animals around? Thats how they found the Americas.

Thats why I only drive. Most of the time I do a long trip there is for the ride. Why fly if I don;t have to?

my cholesterol is border line too low, that means i get to eat as much bacon as i want

How is that possible? How old are you? You must be vegan

Actually...ahem.. *puts spectacles on..* cholesterol is primarily controlled by genetics and your own body, not by diet. Apparently you can only lower your cholesterol a very small amount by diet. If your liver produces too much, there's not that much you can do about it. If you eat less cholesterol, your liver just makes more. Sucks but true.. :-(

I'm not telling, but it's been a while since I graduated high school and it's going to be even longer before I can collect canada pension. Last night I had a pork chop for dinner. today i had a york sandwich for lunch (bacon, ham, eggs, onion & cheese). when my cholesterol was last tested I was eating bacon and eggs almost daily that month.

As a biologist, I refuse to swallow that from a computer geek

Fiber in your diet absorbs cholesterol before they can be absorbed by the intestines
