If u use 2nd gear, u'll need a faster speed to jump start the bike.
1st gear will bump start at a lower speed but give u a jolt (tire skid). Your friends needed to push you faster, and tell em quit smoking

I jump on the pegs when I dump the clutch to force more weight on the rear tire

I dunno, if the battery is really really dead sometimes it is nearly impossible to bump start these new fangled FI bikes. I think it was much easier with the old carb'd bikes, no computer, fuel injectors etc that need juice to work properly.

really, its 3 weeks old and was left on for one night.
id be surprised if buying a new one was my only option

it catches just for a sec but dies before throttle engages

re-charge the battery with an optimate or ctek or battery tender .. slow n' easy ... it'll be as good as new .. esp. if it's only a few weeks old.

glad i didnt take the advice of buying a new battery (however well intentioned)
finally, i have to take a big breath and realize how lucky i am to have had NOTHING else to do today except learn this simple maintenance routine!

OP What battery trickle charger did you get at Cantire? This is important because a computerized trickle charger such as an Optimate, CTek or Battery Tender will automatically turn off and then on, depending on the state of your battery. Other manual trickle chargers will charge at 1.0 amps but will not turn off. Keep it on all the time and it will eventually boil your battery dry. Cantire sells both. With the manual one you will need to manually disconnect it after a number of hours, as spec'd in the instructions.

I really like my CTek 3300. Put it in motorcycle mode, connect and forget. It turns itself off and on by itself.

I actually had to boost a co-workers bike the other day with my car he left the keys in as well car helped and he was up and running in about 5 minutes of charging, and then two days ago my friend did the same thing....comon people!
