Glad the seller was decent enough to take the bike back. Just shows that there are still decent people out there.
Good luck with the hunt.

Yea it could have taken a bad turn.

Appreciate the help from the forum, glad i didnt use the traditional bat technique. lol

Glad it worked out dude. Never rush into buying a bike, be as thorough as possilbe. Next time take someone whose bought and sold bikes for support. I'd never buy a bike without the UVIP. As you've learned, check for liens and also insure that the VIN# on the bike matches the VIN# on the UVIP. Good luck in finding your bike. Take your time there are a lot of used Ninja 250r's out there. Being out 200 is better than headaches. Check it off as a lesson learned and move on.

According to them the cheque has cleared, but were not willing to provide proof to me, or the registered owner.

I wont rush into it. Need it by the 14th cause thats when i get insurance and i really want to ride. Im bored of watching you tube videos of people riding their 250s lol

Sorry your situation didn't work out. It's sad that the bank wouldn't help you. Clearly if they only talk to the dealership but the dealership has sold the vehicle, the dealer has no interest in talking to the bank. This is as much their problem as it is yours because if the lien hasn't been paid off, they will want to know where the vehicle is (assuming they will need to repossess it).

The only thing that got the dealer moving was after i told them i spoke to omvic.

Its okay, live and learn.

All you need is the VIN number and "you" can buy the UVIP for any vehicle. Most sellers are too lazy or still don't know about it, or are trying to hide a lien. As you can see from the OP's nightmare, it's $20 well spent. First question to ask the seller, do you have the sellers package? If you're really interested in the bike, ask for the VIN and tell them ypu'll go buy it. Don't buy the bike without it! It was designed to protect you, the purchaser, and that it does.

Just one more update, I was planning on buying another bike with a lien registered against it. The seller assured me the he paid it off, everything was documented.

I did call up the bank and they provided me with the release papers stating that the loan has been paid off and the bank holds no interest in the bike. At first they were reluctant to provide information. I told them, that I got clarification from the ministry that they are obligated to disclose information if i were to register it under my name.

You do have to be a bit pushy.

Well done, I'm sure the person you spoke to doesn't handle this situation often and needed a little encouragement. Well done!

Just curious, could this ever be an issue if buying a used bike from a dealer?

If you are buying from a registered dealer it would not be an issue. If you did buy from a dealer and a lien is still in effect and they won't do anything about call omvic. Omvic will force them to clear the lien up otherwise they will end up getting there license pulled. Buying from a dealer you are also entitled to compensation from omvic if you are at a finanical loss from a transaction with a dealer. http://www.omvic.on.ca/info/compfund/compfund_default.htm

That's somewhat true...Even if you get a UVIP showing clear of liens, there could still be a lien on it. The gov't will not assume any responsibility for that lien, even though it does not show on the UVIP, still better to buy the UVIP yourself, if the seller does not have it, and make sure it's current. The gov't sucks, and should stand by the UVIP info but it does not.
