Heard baby r1 is gonna be available in track mode only. No more street models after 2021 ?

What do other R6 owners say about this ?

It would be unfortunate to lose the option even though they aren’t great machines for the street.

there's more than enough used models to go around though I bet, they're not all that popular anymore for street use, but bet they were during the gixxer bro heyday

That's probably the right place for anything 600r or 1000r.

If they make that announcement, might be worth snapping up a few and keeping them under covers for a few years.

Also WR250R and VMAX.

Too bad about the WR. Although it's technically a better bike than the CRF250L, not sure many people thought it was >$1000 better...
Honestly, its far more than $1000 better.

Crf250l is a heavy underpowered dog.

The wr250r/x is still a low maintenance 250 dualsport, so don't expect it to be a rocketship; but it's 30lbs lighter, 6hp more (or so), and better suspension (compared to the crf250L, which is non-adjustable bargain basement bad.)

The wr still needs some improvements from stock. 12 year run. Lots of used examples. Maybe Yamaha will come out with a 450 with less maintenance intervals than the crf450L.... that'd be nice.

The Bluecrue fans have been asking for this for a decade.

The ending of the Supersport racing class as-is was always going to have this result. Sales are crap, costs are high. Young riders can't afford the insurance, and older riders who can afford it can also afford a superbike. Also, the R6 is only 8 lbs lighter than an S1000RR, so it's not like the riding experience is significantly different beyond having less power in a narrower band. Add better and better rider aids for the big bikes that significantly reduce the pucker factor and the 600's don't have much reason to exist anymore.

600 class is dead, it was fun while it lasted. Add it to 750cc fours and 1000cc twins in the graveyard of classes killed by changing regs...

This is horrible news!

The last of the SS is dead!

Wow...I didn't realize how expensive the CRF450L is ...

had a GSXR 600 and now a R6. both fun bikes. I have never ridden any other types of bikes. Guess most riders don't like sport bikes?
What do they know that I don't know....

These are only rumours about the r6, i've seein pics from europe of the r6 2021 20th anniversary edition..redblack and white.

No, it's definitely done as a street bike. See here:
Yamaha YZF-R6 Discontinued After 2020 - Cycle News

It's carrying on as a track-only model, with a GYTR pack available for standard upgrades (ECU, braided lines, etc), but Euro 5 has killed it and the CBR outside Japan. The GSXR isn't sold in Europe, and the ZX6R may not be Euro 5 compliant. Apparently they've pushed back some of the Euro 5 deadlines due to Covid, so they may stick around for another year, but it'll be tough to meet the requirements. Revving high makes noise and emissions targets difficult to hit, and 600's don't work without rpm's.

The reality is that the low sales volumes for 600's just don't justify the R&D that would be required. Away from the track, they just don't make a lot of sense for most riders, even sport riders. Twins make almost as much horsepower with way more usable torque, are cheaper to produce, and don't have the track ergos.
