Im looking to get something thats more touring oriented and better on longer runs on the highway, I have narrowed it down to essentially 3 options and perhaps someone who racks on the miles can chime in:

Option 1)
Get some luggage options, a windshield, a proper aerodynamic helmet etc and try to incrementally improve highway/touring comfort

Option 2)
Trade in the orange beast for a 950 multi, the newer ones have all the electronic bells and whistles, I wager they dont sell many and I suspect this is why the dealer is giving me a pretty good deal on it

Option 3)
Trade in the orange beast and throw a bunch of money with it and get a proper 1260 multistrada that pretty much comes stock with everything

Aprilia and moto guzzi dont really have anything atm that has performance and touring capability, I already have a KTM and would like to try something different if I go with option 2 or 3

The only Japanese option Im willing to consider is perhaps the new tracer GT, but even with that amazing engine, ducati's just feel more special

Thanks!

Orange beast ready to tour.

I would love a new, or new-ish, Multistrada! I think it would compliment a Tuono very nicely.
But I’ve spent waaaaay too much on vehicles lately so I’ve promised the other half that I won’t be buying anything else until 2024....

I wonder if its as good of a tourer as the multis
That front windshield doesnt look nearly as large

They're also harder to find imo

What you want is a 1985 goldwing:

multi may be the better tourer, but when you aren't touring i suspect the GT is a lot more fun.

Wow 800 lbs is a LOT

I was thinking maybe 550 tops fully fueled with a wide handlebar for more corner carving leverage

All the weight is down low. The only time it's noticable is at really low speeds.
Notice how much shifting there is in the vid? The flat six motor let's you leave it in top gear.

Windscreen helps. Earplugs for sure. Go with hard luggage. I regret buying soft luggage and I'm too cheap to buy again. Its a pain in the butt messing with straps at the end of a long day riding and you just want to get a change of clothes so you can hop in the shower. Tank bag is a must. Ergo seat.

One thing on my 790 Duke that I do is put my feet up on my Evotech frame sliders. They stick out far enough and they are rounded. Basically feet forward cruiser mode.

If you buy the 950 I'm 95% sure you'll kick yourself for not getting the 1260. 0-100kmh they're pretty close, but the 1260 has that power-wheelie in 3 gears grin factor the 950 just doesn't have. Trust me, on the Multi forum there's VERY few that wouldn't rather the 1260 over their 950 if they had the cash. Ride them both then decide. GPbikes will set you up with this if you want.
Word of advice in case you test drive a 1200/1260: every owner adds 2 teeth to rear sprocket as they come geared incorrect from factory (word is it's to pass sound tests as it's running lower rpm at certain speed therefor quieter). +2 rear makes a low speed power better and acceleration much better (my fuel mileage actually went up as well as I wasn't twisting as much when accelerating).
Nothing wrong with throwing bags and shield at your current ride which is my second choice. Could be chasing your tail trying to get a screen that works as well as bags that function well and are adequate (I don't know what KTM offers for that model).

Just so that you know what the other end of the spectrum is like, take a new gen wing for a demo ride. And be sure to hit up some twisties with it. (with the susp set at max)

FTW (For The Wing!)

Rode one for a while. Wearing a white helmet while riding a white Wing on the highways, *everybody* would pull over when I was behind them.

I guess I looked like a cop in their rear view mirror...

Also may have been because of the red coffee mug I put on the dash... LOL!

Wonderful bike, amazing handling for its weight because its boxer six, and torquey as all-get-out. Loved it!

My problem has always been I try to tour on naked bikes with no windshield and no luggage, so the wind beats me up, and usually with everything in a backpack

So wind + 30lb backpack = pretty tired bigpoppa
