Been a pretty crazy season for me. None the less. I have ridden this **** out of my 250 ninja... I dont have a car so the ninja was my main source of transport. I have been riding pretty much non stop since june 2011.

I live downtown, my rule is I ride if its over zero degree. One accident on the ninja, one month in but charges were dropped.

I am looking for my next bike. I am thinking an r6. I obviously dont want to get anything too crazy since I am still a new rider. However, I need to kick it up a notch.

I have a 250 and i been looking up bigger bikes and sv650s seems popular. Sweet torque good top speed and cheap on insurance.

hate the way it looks. Is there a list for top second bikes?

I'm in the same situation as you actually, but not upgrading until 2013.

My suggestion is to do your own research, especially with prices and watching ads on Kijiji. If you wanna get new, nothing beats the price of a new R6 (strictly MSRP). I also noticed a 2008 Ducati 848 at GP Bikes for nearly the same price as the R6. FZ8, FZ1, and Hornet would be my choices for naked bikes; keep in mind I'm biased towards Honda and Yamaha (simply because I keep hearing great things about them from mechanics; I currently own a Suzuki GS500F however).

If you're looking for used, however, your choices get extremely limited. There's a fleet of 600 SS bikes and very few other types. Also keep in mind if you aren't 25 and have held your G for 5 years, insurance will rape you harder than prison would.

Good luck in your searches!

The 09 Zx6r was the top 600 for a couple of years, the GSXR600 was top of 2011 very closely followed by the Zx6r again.

The Yamaha and Hondas ranked pretty low, specially in regards to engine but it really depends on what you like.

Also the GSXR600 has the A B and C mode, as a new supersport rider, you will appreciate riding the first few times on C, less of a ******** in the pants experience

I wouldn't get an ss if it was my main transportation. Ya it'll look hella cool but you won't want to ride it any where far or long.

I own a Gsxr 600 and I find it the most comfortable of all the 600s I've sat on and lowest seat height. Still uncomfortable as hell tho.

I have done 10 hrs rides with a few stops no problem. You get used to it

I've noticed quite a few ppl who do long *** touring rides, a lot from these boards, on sport bikes without handle bar mods. My current Suzuki GS500F has lowered handle bars (done poorly as I can't fully turn my bike without locking my brake levers) and have no problem with 45 minute - 2 hour rides on it: with a damn 5-10 pound backpack (screw textbooks and laptop). It helps if you exercise regularly; especially dead lifts, reverse crunches and lower back exercises (don't know the names specifically, just know them from watching videos and working out for 7 years).

EDIT: Forgot, if you're fat (no offense) don't do it. If you stablize yourself by simply contracting your core you'll be fine. If you're holding your weight up in a sport position using your shoulders or arms, that will cause huge problems.

nothing wrong with SS being a daily driver...just do your own research and go with the one that you like...performance wise, all SS probably the same if you only ride it on the streets...other bikes to consider like SV650, kawi 650r, they all great for city riding..

Damn 10 hours. I usually need to stop after 2.

Im not saying you couldn't do it but I wouldn't pick a ss as a daily. There are better options IMO.

I don't know the op's budget but I would get a z1000 or diavel but would be too much of a power increase from a 250

Really comes down to insurance prices. So i will start calling. I am 25 had the m2 for a year will be doing m soon.

Currently paying 1,200 for a 2010 ninja 250.

Sounds about right, GS500F after a year is 1600. Gonna check SS insurance w/ Statefarm in December.

should be about 1300 for the 600s

Agreed, the memory of at least 10 GTAM rides (in one month) with 6+ SS bikes.. I got a leg cramp once, but once you get used to riding in that position, it doesn't feel any different than any other activity. I actually like the riding position on SS more than any other type of riding position. I see TONS of people commuting on SS bikes all spring summer and fall...

Nothing wrong with commuting with an SS but I would prefer not to.

With an SS, the seating position is more aggressive and in stop and go, it can get pretty tiring. Takes more energy to turn/brake, which will be done very often in traffic. I'd rather take my car to work than ride my SS. On top of that, you have to deal with traffic. SS bikes heat up very quickly compared to something like a Ninja 250.

So back on topic. r6. Any year in particular to look for?

I remember when i was ninja shopping there wasnt many differences between the years for the ninjas. Anything in particular i should be careful with when searching for an r6>?

Check the chart on the bottom.

2006+ seems to be the newest version with minor changes. Previous ones are probably nearly identical (I am no mechanical engineer) but you should look for the seat differences. Some people like the one seat, others like me think it looks like poo.

Check

And post a similar topic to see what they say; I'll be doing the same later in the year.
