Newbie Ninja 650R

I know that the Ninja 650R has a wet clutch, and have heard lot's of different opions as to what oil is the best. I will go with a synthetic for sure, i ride a 06, I have to assume the 2006 and 2009 would use same oil.
Maybe same oil filter also?

you use K&N oil filter? I know lots of guys use K&N for air filters.

K&N are good filters, but you'll be paying extra for the premium filter. I run K&N and OEM fitlers on my bike.

Same oil yes. Same Filter I'm not sure. You'll have to check the service manual or get a part number from a dealer.

Yes I use K&N, as was said they are a premium filter so they do cost more (about 16 bucks each).. running full synthetic and changing it every 5k is it necessary? Probably not.. but I like that they have a nut on them in-case there's a difficulty getting it off and the OEM filters are about the same price.. Going with a basic fram from Canadian tire will save you about 6 bucks a change.

I'll never use anything made by FRAM after TWO of those literally fell apart in my cars. Unscrewed them when changing oil and the inner filter insert just fell out of the housing (POS! That's after 5K km).

SAE 10W40

Luc what kind of miledge do you get? i got about 140kms on 10.5 liters. mix between city and highway.

Also my gas light comes on way to early, if i fill the tank up when the light comes on i can only put 11 liters in.

Works out to be about 300km to a tank. Click the banner for full details if interested.

Are you fueling the bike on a kickstand? You'll get tons more in the tank if the bike is fully upright. My old 650 got 280-300km on a full tank with a mix of hwy/city

Thanks!! I am going to try that tonight!

I figure I should be able to get 275kms to a tank. To be honest as the bike is still new to me I have been
running the revs verticle on on the tach. LOL

Hi all, after 15 years of wanting a street bike I finally pulled the trigger and bot myself a 2006 650R

I have lots of experience in the dirt but very new to the streets!

Any riders in the GTA area looking to ride with a newbie and show him the safeway would be awesome!

ciao

P.S what's a CAGER?

very nice. congrats on the new ride!

great tip Keith, with the bike standing I got an extra 2 litres in the tank.
which means and extra 30 kms till I have to stop, and I hate stopping

lol
