Hi all, after 15 years of wanting a street bike I finally pulled the trigger and bot myself a 2006 650R

I have lots of experience in the dirt but very new to the streets!

Any riders in the GTA area looking to ride with a newbie and show him the safeway would be awesome!

ciao

P.S what's a CAGER?

CAGER is a car driver. Cause he's in a "Cage".

Welcome to the road!! Let the fun begin!

Welcome. ride safe!

Welcome.

Great bike. you're going to love it. I put over 3,000k on mine last week and couldn't have been happier with it.

I can hardlly wait to get out this weekend, don't feel comfortable in the city yet so i am waiting for the weekend to get north.

thanks, anyone in the north york area know of a decent place to take my bike for service?

Heritage Auto and Powersports on Ingram Road

There super close to me, have you dealt with them before?

Yup, only thing I had done there personally was mount my new tires.. nothing but good stories about them for all kinds of things though. Do a search, there must be a dozen threads where they are mentioned.

O.K i will do a search, i called them and they seem pretty cool.

What would you expect to pay for an oil change?

Personally I would expect never to pay for an oil change on a bike.. there's about a million how to threads and you tube video's on it, and it'll take you about 15 minutes to do yourself.

I'm no mechanic.. there are many things I would not attempt to do myself, and would use heritage for, but an oil change it not one of them.

I knew you were going to say that! I just figured they'll check out my brakes and do a quick once over.

What kind of oil do you use? I have heard that for a Ninja it's a good idea to go synthetic because it'll smooth out some of the clunk in shifting?

Assuming you just got it safetied when it was changed over to your name, the brakes and what not should have been checked. But by all means take it to have to have it looked at if it gives you peace of mind. I would still change the oil myself first though.

I prefer a full synthetic. currently using Amzoil, but Mobile 1 is good. Likely any known full synthetic won`t be noticeably any different. Just make sure you get the motorcycle specific.. it has added friction modifiers because your bike has a wet clutch. I prefer a K&N filter because I like that it has a nut on it should I have a hard time getting it off.. the 09+ 650r`s take the kn-303 best i`ve been able to find them is at Royal distributing for 16.99. Canadian tire sells them for 24.99 :s but they`ll have an equivalent fram for about 10 bucks if you don`t care about the nut.
